3.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Mungular (46) - Georgia, USA - JUN 13, 2010
I tasted this beer with my best friend Jen. I hated it, she loved it. Fruit beers just aren’t my thing so I let her give the ratings to keep things more objective. Pours beautifully with a violet body and champagne pink head. This is a pretty beer. The nose is all over the place with perfume, soap, cherries... and play-dough. Seriously, we both smelled it. The taste reminded me of cough syrup and Jen of cherry flavored Jagermeifter. It was, as advertised, gastronomically special. We were burping for at least thirty minutes.

2007 bottle. Aroma of tart cherries, sour apple, white sugar and oak. Appearance is dark red with light red head. Taste matches the nose; this beer almost seems like a mix between a kriek and a sour ale. Pretty interesting, really, if you are a fan of both styles. Palate is creamy and bubbly. Nice and refreshing, the alcohol is perhaps too well hidden.

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20 J_man (363) - Tustin, California, USA - JUN 5, 2010
I like Krieks and this started off very promising. Bright, clear red with very little head that disappears immediately. Fresh cherry aroma followed by a sour cherry flavor with a bit of sweetness and a bite at the end, all the things I love about Krieks. But then the herbal/medicinal flavor kicked in and seemed to build as I drank it. Almost a Benedictine liqueur flavor that some people might like, but it’s not something I was looking for. Overall, a very good Kriek and maybe just too complex for me.
4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 ectuohy27 (258) - New Jersey, USA - JUN 2, 2010
Holy crap, this is the mother lode of beers. 8% abv , rich, velvety, layered. Outstanding aroma of sour cherry--is this a vishnya beer or just chereshnya with souring yeast?--its appearance is a shimmering miasma of ruby and onyx. Oh and did I mention it tastes freakin’ outstanding? -0.2 for perhaps a bit more complexity, and for giving me (and other brewers) something to aspire to. On the TDL--this against Lindemans Kriek. (riverside, high bridge, hunterdon; $7.99ish ++)
