2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 DruncanVeasey (4800) - NUNEATON, Conference North, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - FEB 9, 2009
Bottle, as ’Kasteel Rouge’. ’Kriek’ is really pushing it. Burgundy capped with a sweetshop slick of pink .Sweet cherrydrop aroma, tiny hint of breadiness, alcohol. Way too sweet but not tooth-rotting with some alcohol bitterness and a pleasant wintery glow as it goes down. Sweeter than cherry drops, but no sweetener-derived off notes, at least. Leaves a stickiness on the lips like cola. Sugary commercial cherry beer with zero sourness, acidity, complexity or interest, but the plughole’s not getting any. Wildly overrated.

Opaque black-red with lovely strawberry colored frothy foam. Aroma is loads of mashed up cherries minus pits but skins included. Marachino sharpness. Excellent palate is smooth, nice. Finish is slightly thin, though. Something really nice about this, it’s not too sweet, has an astringent cherry quality as if sweet and dry at same time. A little thin but solid and unfortunately becomes more medicinal with each sip.

Had the Kasteel Rouge (red)
It is brewed with cherries. With a very dark red or dark burgundy and a light pink foam. the very strong smell of cheries is very present. The taste is very sweet, maybe too much and again the taste of cheries is very present.
Good beer.

Strong cherry aroma. Beautiful red aroma. Cherry flavor dominates flavor. Weak carbonation and lack of sour leaves very cloying sweet finish.

draft at Trion in New Haven, IN - Pours ruby red with a thin pinkish head. The rich aroma is all cherries. The flavor is really dominated by the cherries. There’s a bit of malt flavor in there and I think even a little hops in the finish, but the cherries, and they are good cherries, overwhelm everything else. For me it’s just short of being cloying and manages to be a pretty good beer, but it could use a little complexity.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 french tickler (642) - Aylmer, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 24, 2009
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 ChainGangGuy (3682) - Canton, Georgia, USA - JAN 23, 2009
Appearance: Pours a clear, deep, dark ruby-hued body capped by an inch of pink foam.
Smell: Candy-like nose of sweet-smelling concentrated cherry juice. Jolly Ranchers cooked down into a pot of Kool-Aid where somewhere didn’t add nearly enough water.
Taste: Super sweet blend of melted lollipops, Luden’s Wild Cherry cough drops, and grenadine. Very light cherry tartness. Some meager perceived hints at actual malts, but it’s pretty much straight-up cherries through and through.
Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium-low carbonation.
Drinkability: A bit simple with it’s delivery of just cherries and jolting sweetness. Me, I’d sooner reach for something a bit more graceful, like New Glarus Belgian Red. Still though, I found it reasonably enjoyable, but I could see many people considering this to be outright cloying.
