UPDATED: JUL 26, 2010 Bottled. Rose coloured amber with pink head. Sweet and definitely cherry, syrupy but with a slight sour finish. All too much for my palate, overwhelming. Re Rate July 2010 - Keg at Oliviers Belgisch Bier Cafe, Leiden. Red with pink head, sweet but full cherry notes, wine like.

from Au Grain d’Orge, labelled Kasteel Rouge - fully cloudy reddish-brown colour with a firm beige foam; strong aroma of cherries and marzipan, very sweet and full-bodied, juicy with some acidic tartness; long sweetish cherries aftertaste - strong and very sweet yet quite enjoyable

Bottle Kasteel Rouge from Party Town, KY. Poured reddish brown color and an average frothy off-white head that mostly diminished with fair lacing. Moderate cherry tart fruit aroma. Medium body with lively carbonation. Medium tart cherry flavor with a medium sweet citrus finish of moderate duration. Refreshing fruit beer.

A Mes rate: 75cl bottle from Quaffs thanks to our Terry.
Very dark transluscent blood red with a thin pinky white head. Smells almost exactly like Mr. Kipling Cherry Bakewell cakes. More juice than fruit and fairly artificial but I can’t help but really like it. Some almond and marzipan in there too. Flavour is the same but a little on the sharp side. Just a faint wisp of alcohol but it’s pretty well hidden on the whole. Ridiculously sweet and tart. Entertaining but not fantastic.

Süßer, künstlich wirkender Kirschgeruch. So startet das Bier auch, mit der Zeit wird es künstlicher. Der Süßstoff is DEUTLICH erkennbar, fruchtig, künstlich. Im Nachgeschmack leicht herb, weiter künstlich. Test vom 27.8.2007, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 10,10,9,7,10,9 - 9,00

Deep burgundy/red colour with a thin pink head. Light chewy cherry aroma. Rich cherry pit spiciness. Some other apricot pit/almondy nuttiness. Rich and quite sweet. Cherries and a lovely cinnamon/clove character. Lightly vineous character and a soft cherry/fruitiness. Lingering sweetness with a touch of light tartness. This reminds me of Quelque Chose, but a little bit simpler.

Bottle 4/2001: Pours a rich dark ruby brown with a somewhat thin, at least for a Belgian beer, off-white head. Aroma is sweet and sour cherries with some Belgian yeast. Syrupy sweet cherry body has nice oaky complexity and mild tartness which hide the alcohol very well. Well balanced and enjoyable, a great fruit beer!

Small to medium dirty pink-ochre head, fast gone, over deep-red beer with a cold haze. Intense cherry (sweets) smell. Sweet, if not overly so, very fruity, and a deeper background nose, a bit vinous, wood and definitely quite some malt. Again a first impression of cherry syrup or concentrate, very fruity, halfway natural-artificial. The positive side, again, is the background: a heavy, potent maltbeer, that is advantageously set off against the ever so slightly sourish fruit flavours. Cherries, also plums, some alcohol, like a potent plumwine to mull. Quite full bodied, near chewy, but the faint fruity sourness enlightens it. You’ve read it: I expected the worst, and got much better in return. I cannot in all honesty destroy this beer; it certainly has its merits. The only thing that annoys me no end, is the silly "Kasteel Rouge" moniker. What is this koeterwaals , something to colour my cheeks with???

Bottled. A deep deep red coloured beer with no head. Seemed more raspberry than cherry to me. Sweet and very fruity, but there’s still a good beery feel to it. Strong. Tasty.
