Kasteel Rouge is a blend of Kasteel Donker and cherry liquor. The mix of these two excellent products creates an exceptional soft beer with references to the dark mother beer.

2007 Vintage ~ Happy Valentine’s Day!

2/14/2008: Kasteel Rouge is the color of a cranberry’s skin and has a fluffy rouge-colored head. The aroma has sour cherry, some artificial cherry, and a hint of that lambic-like funk. The first sip is sweet like a cherry sucker with a bit of alcohol/cough syrup flavor in the finish. However, the next sip and those in sucsession start to reveal more of the nuances of this beer such as a real, sourish cherry flavor, some tartness, and hints of that funky lambic-like quality. This beer is generously carbontated, but not fizzy. It has a medium-light body and is quite tasty. I got this for my wife for Valentine’s Day and she did enjoy it. It isn’t as good or complex as the <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/new-glarus-belgi Glarus Belgian Red that she loves so much, but at least I can buy this one in the area and it isn’t too terribly expensive!

Bottle. Pours dark red ruby with low head. Aroma is cherry wine, malts and hay. Taste is fruity, sweet with a nice malty aftertaste.

Bottle into a tulip. Pours a deep red, with a small pink head. Nose is cherries, and the taste follows. A little tart at the beginning, but yields to slight sweetness in the middle and finish. Very nice-not cloying.

Beaucoup de cerises au nez et en bouche. C’est sucré, mais aussi citronné. Bouche sur la cerise. Pas trop sucrée en bouche. Longueur moyenne, un peu trop d’alcool sur la fin.

After i read what this beer is made of, i lost my will to drink it. Full of chemicals, additives and sh*t.

I do not wax on poetically about beer but I do know the quality of a beer once tasted. This review is not about my tastes but reinforces the numbers, which are arbitrary.

Aroma: cherry vodka. Appearance: reddish color and reddish head. Taste: cherry vodka, rough, tart, artificial taste, quite dry. Palate: medium body and medium carbonation, vodka finish. Overall: Travesty.

Dark red. No head. Smells cherry juice. More juice in the taste, some alcohol and juice-like sourness. Nice drink, but hardly a beer.

Bottle at the Wellington Arms, Bedford. Pinkish brown, clear, with a notable pinkish white head. Ripe cherry scent. Taste is a bit one-dimensionally fruity sweet, and finish is unfortunately short. However it’s an enjoyable beer which bravely tempers the intensity of Kasteel Donker. Good stuff.
