COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Kasteel Winter is a unique departure from the standard Christmas ales known for their potpourri of cinnamon and clove. In fact, it stands alone as one of the most decadent and elegant Quadruples of Belgium in its own right. This 11% ABV beer pours a Chestnut brown with an off-white head. The nose is rich, with a warming scent of Coffee, Toffee, and Dried Fruits. The mouthfeel is rich and sweet like that of melted candy. The key ingredients to this delicacy is Belgian Chocolate and Coffee...noteworthy phrases in any brewers handbook. All of these elements come together to provide an after taste reminiscent of a tootsie roll.

Apr. ’16. A 0.33 l bottle, as Barista Chocolate Stout. It poured a clear brown with almost no head. Sweet aroma, cocoa, sugar, tobacco. Flavor was sweet, a bit too much. Had some fine chocolate notes though. Sugary, caramel, spicy with cinnamon. Also sour, which was even more notable in the finish, too, where it was also quite alcoholic besides sticky caramel and sugary sweetness. Quite a weird beer, but I didn’t like it anyhow. Even if I think I got the bad batch, it was still way too sweet.

Aroma is chocolate, slight earthiness and sharp toffee. The flavor is strong toffee, mild coffee, chocolate, malts, slight dark fruit and an earthy/alcoholic/sourish finish.

Nice and strong. Something not so appealing in terms of the surprise, I was expecting something more spiced.

Tasted as Kasteel Barista Chocolate Quad. Coffee notes in nose. Deep brown with fading off white head. Deep malt and coffee flavors with the slightest note of raspberry in the finish, fairly sweet. Medium full bodied. Great dessert beer.

Sample at Crafted & Cured (as "Barista Chocolate Quad"). The beer pours a clear dark brown color with a medium foamy beige head that diminishes gradually to a film. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted coffee, dark chocolate and malt. Full-bodied and drinkable with flavors of roast coffee, chocolate malt and earthy yeast. The finish is roasty with a coffee and malt aftertaste. Pretty good all around.
