COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Kasteel Winter is a unique departure from the standard Christmas ales known for their potpourri of cinnamon and clove. In fact, it stands alone as one of the most decadent and elegant Quadruples of Belgium in its own right. This 11% ABV beer pours a Chestnut brown with an off-white head. The nose is rich, with a warming scent of Coffee, Toffee, and Dried Fruits. The mouthfeel is rich and sweet like that of melted candy. The key ingredients to this delicacy is Belgian Chocolate and Coffee...noteworthy phrases in any brewers handbook. All of these elements come together to provide an after taste reminiscent of a tootsie roll.

750 ml. bottled 2013/07/10. Nearly opaque, deep mahogany color with a lasting centimeter of creamy foam. Aroma is mixed light and dark fruit, brown bread, toffee, cocoa and espresso with cream. Tastes of lightly tart berry, vanilla, dark toasted bread, dark chocolate and toffee. Swirling notes of orange, apple, plum and all kinds of darker fruit throughout. Only minor distraction is the long finish has some scorched sugar and grain that gets a little overbearing at times. Medium-heavy body is lightly tingly with a smooth carbonation. Great balance from all directions and dangerously drinkable for 11%.

Aromas of darkly roasted malts, coffee, and suggestions of dark chocolate are pronounced. A cola-brown hue with a lasting, one finger tan head and minor lacing. The taste is robust. Cocoa, chocolate, richly roasted coffee and some malt sweetness. Medium body and medium carbonation. Overall, not what I think of when I think of a Belgian Strong Ale. And with the name "Winter" I was expecting something more spicy. That being said, this was an excellent tasting beer. More like a Stout than anything. Would drink again.

33 cl bottle. Pours a dark brown with a creamy tan head. Aroma is strong coffee and alcohol. Taste is sweet. Palate is full body, thick and creamy with a long finish. Overall a unique winter beer, but a little too coffee for my taste.
