Kasteel Winter is a unique departure from the standard Christmas ales known for their potpourri of cinnamon and clove. In fact, it stands alone as one of the most decadent and elegant Quadruples of Belgium in its own right. This 11% ABV beer pours a Chestnut brown with an off-white head. The nose is rich, with a warming scent of Coffee, Toffee, and Dried Fruits. The mouthfeel is rich and sweet like that of melted candy. The key ingredients to this delicacy is Belgian Chocolate and Coffee...noteworthy phrases in any brewers handbook. All of these elements come together to provide an after taste reminiscent of a tootsie roll.

Zwart bier met schuim.Smaak is niet sterk en licht bitter met iets van koffie en chokolade. Heb niet het gevoel een dergelijk zwaar bier te drinken. Is zelfs iets waterig. Valt tegen.

On draft at Monkey. Nice notes of dark chocolate, creamy expresso, and dark fruit, berry, toffee. Very good

Tap at de Paas as Chocolate quad. Very dark brown with small beige head. Coffee candies (Haagse hopjes), coffee liquor, brown sugar, instant coffee, pasted malts, alcohol. Very sugary with coffee bitter finish. Not bad, but it’s not really beer. Meh.

UPDATED: FEB 25, 2015 Strong coffee aroma. Tastes like spirit made of coffee liquorice. It?s more like a cocktail than a beer. Update: Tried to drink a bottle of this. Struggled one hour to get a third down. Eventually poured the rest down the loo. Felt like poison for my body.

Donkerbruin. Tap @ de Klep Venlo.

750 c&c from Healthy Spirits. Pours with a slight beige head. Aroma is very coffee. Med body. Flavor is light treacle, coffee and low quality chocolate. Otherwise a damn nice drink. Highly recommended as a sipper.

Bottle shared by bhensonb. Pours dark brown with a tiny beige head and a coffee and treacle aroma. There is a complex dark malt flavor that includes coffee, chocolate and spices.

Draft at De Paas. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Big cocoa and dark chocolate hit to the aroma up front with strong Belgian ale dark fruits, yeast, caramel, dried fruits and sweet malts coming up the slightly boozy rear. Flavour is heavy sweet with that massive sticky sweet thick cocoa palate. Full bodied with soft carbonation. A decent winter warmer but wouldn’t want more than one glass in a sitting.

Bottle from Dranken Verheyen in Poppel. The beer has a dark ruby red color and a fast disappearing cream colored head. The aroma is fruity with tones of dried fruits. Further a bitterness is noticable with tones of dark chocolate, coffee, caramel and candice. The taste is full and sweet, with tones of caramel and some dark and dried fruits, to change into a light bitterness with tones of cacao, coffee and dark chocolate. The finish is full and with warming alcohol. Lovely and nice winter beer, completely different from the other Kasteel beers. I loved it.
