An unequalled beer, at the top of the Kasteel spectrum. The aroma and flavour of Cuvée are those of a Kasteel Donker, that aged 10 years in the cellars of the castle, noble and strong.

750 that was on sale for $3.99 at Randalls. Almost as dark as a stout with a tan head. Aroma is a bit boozy but also very malty. The flavor is big sweet malts with a lot of raisin notes. A little spice pops in from time to time and chocolate does the same.

Dunkel rötlichbraunes Bier mit geringer beigen Schaumkrone. Geruch nach reifen dunklen Beeren, Früchten, röstig, alkoholisch. Geschmack nach sehr reifem Obst, Karamell, leicht röstmalzig, schokoladig, alkoholisch.

33 cl. bottled 2013/05/29. Pours opaque dark brown with a lasting film of foam. Nose is dark cherry, bread dough, metallic prune and a hint of baker’s chocolate. Tastes of dark chocolate, merlot, dark cherry and plum. Finish is bitter with apple core, light toasted wood and peppery spice. Medium-heavy body has a nice balance and hides the abv well. The slight tingle of CO2 and touch of warming makes this a pretty smooth winter sipper.

Dark brown beer with a small white head, high carbonation. Smells fruity. Tastes like fruity, roasted malt, chocolate, strong alcohol. Easy to drink despite its strong beer.

33 cl Bottle at Billardsaal Stuttgart. Pours dark chestnut brown, large light brown head. Impressive, elegant aroma: dark malt, dried fruit, raisins, liquorice. Full taste, quite complex. Dried fruit again, massive malt base, well hidden alcohol and medium carbonation. Well balanced sweetness and slight sourness, developing a great, long and nicely bitter finish.

Bottle (330 ml). Vintage 2012. Dark reddish brown with a medium beige head and little lacing. Aroma is plums, vinous notes, light liquorice, light spiciness, molasses and not too much alcohol considering the abv (it’s less boozy than the Donker). Taste is slightly sweet with plums, molasses, chocolate notes, light spiciness, hints of liquorice and alcohol. Medium to full body. Moderate carbonation. Mouthfeel is a tad vinous and sirupy. Warming finish. Interesting beer. A tad better than the Donker because it’s a little smoother and alcohol is better integrated. Somewhat tasty. Interesting.

Rich treacle nose. Brown, thin tan head. Flavor progresses from treacle, to fig, to a nice plum finish. Slightly sweet, but certainly well within the guidelines for the style. Alcohol noticeable, but again sppropriate for the style. Medium body and chewy. Delightful.
