An unequalled beer, at the top of the Kasteel spectrum. The aroma and flavour of Cuvée are those of a Kasteel Donker, that aged 10 years in the cellars of the castle, noble and strong.

Bottle. A strong aromatic malty smell, roasted bread. The body is black, the medium large head is beige and creamy with a normal duration. A strong malty taste, some liquorice. A soft touch of bitter chocolate, not much alcohol in the taste. The body is strong and creamy with a normal carbonation.

Pours a dark reddish brown with a medium head. Very rich, flavorful and STRONG (11% alcohol). I detected some malt and raisin aromas, with some earthiness.

Feb. ’14. A 0.33 l bottle, 2012 vintage, from Ivana trgovina, Split. It poured hazy darker amber body with big head. Belgian ale aroma, malty, somewhat yeasty with lot of vanilla and cinnamon. Fruity as well, even more so in the flavor which was generally sweet and not so alcoholic as one might expect. Fine, relatively complex with not only fruity malt flavors, there is also caramel and toffee, some wood and ginger/lemon notes from somewhere. Full bodiy, long warming, but creamy finish which only reflects the fine flavor. Very nice beer fr the special occasion, about the best this brewery can have.

Bottle. Muddy and ruddy, dark brown, virtually no head. Richly caramel, this is a rich, sugary beer. The more I drink, the more I think of cooked brown sugar. This an example of the classical basis on which all our crazy spinoffs are born. Bravo. (#5547, 6/10/2014)

Postprandial tap pour@Gollem A’pen, IV-2014, BE backlog. Amazing how this full-bodied porto cordial of a dessert beer never gets too sweet or sticky like most other Kasteel/Van Honsebrouck’s brews. Dark berries suspended in young porto maceration, intermittent brandy notes, velvet mouthfeel. Quite a mouth- and paunchfull in its massive jumbo wine glass serving, but still a memorable one-off treat.
