An unequalled beer, at the top of the Kasteel spectrum. The aroma and flavour of Cuvée are those of a Kasteel Donker, that aged 10 years in the cellars of the castle, noble and strong.

Pours dark brown with a tan head. Malty aroma with caramel and dark dried fruits with hints of alcohol and spices. Sweet, malty and fruity with warming alcohol and a lightly spicy and bitter finish. Decent, but to much on the sweet side for my taste.

750 mL bottle dated 2010-05-27. Aroma is full of dark caramel and toffee with some chocolate notes. Moderate raisin, plum and prune. Light roast and moderate burnt sugar notes. Pours a cloudy brown with a small, thin, tan head that quickly recedes to the edges where it lingers. No lacing and small legs. Flavor is moderately to very sweet with dark caramel, toffee and lighter roast and chocolate notes. Some burnt sugar notes. Lots of raisin and plum with lighter prune and fig notes. Lots of burnt sugar in the flavor as well. Moderate bitterness helps add a hint of a drying finish. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium carbonation. Low, but faintly present astringency with medium alcohol warmth. Overall a pretty decent Belgian Strong Dark. Lots of malt character with quite a bit of esters to balance it all. Lots of sweetness but it hides the alcohol really well. Tough to drink a whole bottle by one’s self.

Bottle, 75cl corked. An unclear, brown body is topped by a fingerthick beige head. The aroma has dried fruits, mostly raisins, caramel, alcohol and something herbal. Pleasant but not impressive. The same goes for the flavor, it’s mostly dried fruits here as well, and some caramel and alcohol fighting to be noticed. It’s warming, full-bodiedand effervescent on the palate, with the dried fruits and caramel lasting for a good while. Overall, sure a nice one, but a tad too warming I think. 130508

Bottle@Home, Vintage 2010. Raisin, malts aroma. Dark brown, light brown head, good lace. Sweet, raisin, laurel, liquorice. Pretty alcoholic. Actually it tastes like some kind of spirit was added to the beer. I’d say different brew from the regular Kasteel Bruin but then again, I’m not very familiar with that one.
