3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark red-brown with a fast tan head. Nose is fruity and leans toward cherries, with a little booze and alcohol. Flavor is a little less extreme and had the usual belgian strong elements. Finish is long and sweet. Good ale.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
A clear very dark red body with a quickly dissipating tan-coloured head. Nose has sweet aromas of citrus peels, coriander, raisins, caramel and sherry. Taste is sweet and fruity with a dry and bitter finish. Carbonation is on the high side and the mouthfeel is rich, heavy and filling. The alcohol is readily detectable as a nice warm feeling, but is not harsh on the palate. This is a nice, well-made beer for slow enjoyment.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured from a 2013 bomber into a snifter brown with a thin white head that dissipated fairly quickly.
Aroma is brown sugar banana.
Flavor is sweetly Belgium. Figgy bready Booze there more than subtly.
Balance of flavors and so well done. A way above average Belgium Strong Ale.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured into a sifter from a bottle dated 2013-10-3 so it is about a year old since bottling. Aroma of this beer is of banana and some dark fruits. Appearance is a clear dark burgundy with a one finger tan head that dissipated rapidly. Taste is of bananas, molasses, and dark fruits. Palate is smooth with good carbonation. Overall a great beer that you should try. If you had it prior and did not have a great experience I suggest you try again. Aging does not always make beers taste better and some reviews complained that aged bottles of this were not good. Well I can say at 1 year of age this beer is great. Cheers.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Special version of Kasteelbier Bruin, since 2009, intended to taste like a regular Kasteelbier at ten years old without effectively being old. Yellowish beige, creamy, relatively stable head, colour dark burgundy. Aroma of brown sugar, dried plums, cloves, pear syrup, bourbon, fresh thyme, sherry, sage, fondant, biscuit, gingerbread. Quite complex and rich malt taste, chocolatey, dried citrus peel, noticeable less cloying than the regular version and in that sense a lot better, finishing with herbal hoppiness and port- to bourbon-like, warming alcohol, as well as agreeable spicy notes. What a difference with the regular version and doubtlessly a beer with great aging potential - wonder what this will taste like if it will actually be ten years old.

1.2 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 5/20
Bottle 33cl. Dark almost black with a little light head that diminishes very quickly. Heavy sweet aroma like extra sugar was added. The taste is less sweet then expected. It has bitterness in the (aftertaste). Not very impressive at all. It’s not a cohesive experience.

1.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
In short: An unpalatable booze and sweetness monster brown color ale.
How: Bottle 750ml, consumed with some age on it (over one year probably).
The look: Muddy ugly brown body with almost no head.
In long: The powerful nose is a bit scary, very estery, fruits puree, booze, toasted caramelized dessert. In mouth the beer feels heavy and the minimal carbonation doesn’t help in that regard. A monstrous mountain of sweetness. Lots of sticky caramel. Sticky sweetened fruits puree with no freshness. Stale water. Earth, dirty wet wood and some other dirty stuff. Alcohol is not well hidden, if anything it feels even more than its already high 11%. This is a bottle I brought with me at a bring-your-own alcohol steakhouse, way to ruin my dinner Kasteel. A bottle I opened in a byow restaurant, it almost ruined my dinner. I was feeling as depressed as a chinese worker wearing his old worn out jeans when working at the sweat shop textile factory cutting holes in new designer jeans.
