COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An unequalled beer, at the top of the Kasteel spectrum. The aroma and flavour of Cuvée are those of a Kasteel Donker, that aged 10 years in the cellars of the castle, noble and strong.

Enjoyed from a 750ml champagne-style bottle in a stemless wine glass. The beer pours a medium to nearly deep brown, with a low light tan head. The nose shows fairly rich aromas of molasses and raisin. An underlying yeast note comes through, reminiscent of Duvel’s strain, as does an interesting subtle lactic note. The palate shows assertive carbonation up front, before more molasses/toffee, assertive bitterness (perhaps from the alcohol?), and a note of alcohol toward the finish. Again, underlying yeast notes come through, adding an almost cooling tropical fruit ester toward the finish of the beer. The finish lingers for a moment, showing slight alcohol and residual sweetness. Overall, a strong dark that moves away from the norm with underlying lactic character, but in a way that shows complexity, finesse, and restraint, rather than a simple desire for uniqueness for the sake of itself.

Bottle (330 ml). Vintage 2012. Dark reddish brown with a medium beige head and little lacing. Aroma is plums, vinous notes, light liquorice, light spiciness, molasses and not too much alcohol considering the abv (it’s less boozy than the Donker). Taste is slightly sweet with plums, molasses, chocolate notes, light spiciness, hints of liquorice and alcohol. Medium to full body. Moderate carbonation. Mouthfeel is a tad vinous and sirupy. Warming finish. Interesting beer. A tad better than the Donker because it’s a little smoother and alcohol is better integrated. Somewhat tasty. Interesting.

Rich treacle nose. Brown, thin tan head. Flavor progresses from treacle, to fig, to a nice plum finish. Slightly sweet, but certainly well within the guidelines for the style. Alcohol noticeable, but again sppropriate for the style. Medium body and chewy. Delightful.

Sweet aroma with yeasty notes. Almost black with small dark yellow head. Malty taste with strong acidic yeasty notes and remaining bitterness on the tongue root.

A dark brown beer with a medium and beige head. The nose has lots of raisins and prunes, some sweetness of dried fruits, hint of warming alcohol. Taste have dried fruits, prune, nice sweetness, some herbs in the end. Medium bodied, strong carbonation. Surprisingly light to drink even the strong alcohol %. Balanced beer with dried dark fruits. Easy but tasteful.

33cl bottle @ Keller Smell has some wine alcohol notes. Otherwise it’s rich and sweet. Appears coffee-black with almost no foam at all. Palate is quite light in a plesent way a bit coffee like. I would drink it again soon.

Bottled. @ home. 33cl sample. The aroma has caramel, vanilla, sambuca/bitterkoekjes. Nice. Dark brown coloured beer with an off-white-beige, thin head. The taste is very sweet, boozy and has caramel, biscuit, raisin, some grape. Very alcoholic afterburn. Seems they really like that at Honsebrouck. Pitty, because the flavours in this beer are interesting and pleasant.

Tan dark, quicly diminishing head on top of a very dark, slightly hazy, body. Intense aroma of raisins, plums, banana, clove, caramel. Medium to strong body, soft carbonation, alcohol very well masked and only felt in the amazingly warmly sweet, complex, long finish. Taste of licorice, black fruits, caramel, nuts. Very complex and deep.
