COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An unequalled beer, at the top of the Kasteel spectrum. The aroma and flavour of Cuvée are those of a Kasteel Donker, that aged 10 years in the cellars of the castle, noble and strong.

Enjoyed from a 750ml champagne-style bottle in a stemless wine glass. The beer pours a medium to nearly deep brown, with a low light tan head. The nose shows fairly rich aromas of molasses and raisin. An underlying yeast note comes through, reminiscent of Duvel’s strain, as does an interesting subtle lactic note. The palate shows assertive carbonation up front, before more molasses/toffee, assertive bitterness (perhaps from the alcohol?), and a note of alcohol toward the finish. Again, underlying yeast notes come through, adding an almost cooling tropical fruit ester toward the finish of the beer. The finish lingers for a moment, showing slight alcohol and residual sweetness. Overall, a strong dark that moves away from the norm with underlying lactic character, but in a way that shows complexity, finesse, and restraint, rather than a simple desire for uniqueness for the sake of itself.

33cl bottle. It pours a nice brown gloom with a pure black liquid. The foam is, though nearly non existing, full of carbonization and colours brown white. The nose hints at raisins and lovely malts. The taste however has a cherry tongue, and is not that sweet as the ’normal’ dark Kasteelbeer. The bitterness is very subtle, and the beer benefits from raisin flavours, and even some sherry and port notes. The alcohol percentage marks the 11 percent, but it certainly doesn’t feal that heavy. A beautiful medium body beer which is very well balanced.

Bottle from BarleyWine, CPH - pours a dark brown colour with a reddish hue. Aroma and taste is sweet malty, with notes of caramel, toffee, lots of dark dried fruit, yeasty with some light spices. Decent enough BSA.

Thanks mick for dropping this off. Pours deep ruby with thin white head and good lacing. Smells of mum’s fruitcake with stewed red fruit, nuts, p x and vanilla oak. Flavours are prunes, drying leathery nutty oak, vanilla, all spice and slight funk. holds 11 too well.

Not bad at all. I taste a bit of drop (dutch style candy). cough drop, licorice, alcohol, bit of banana, Much better then the main stream Kasteel beers.
