IrishBoy (2685), Bakersfield, California, USA May 23, 2008 330ml bottle from GM Liquors, Bakersfield; Bottled on 3/28/07; Nose of candi-sugar, caramel, and a ltlle bit of prunes; clear, dark red-brown with a medium, glass-lacing, beige head; flavor is sweet raisins, yeast, and caramel; finish is weeet and alcohol warmth. ahalloin (54), Arlington, Virginia, USA May 19, 2008 Out of the small bottle. Pours a dark brown (almost black) with medium head and decent lacing that lingers a bit. The aroma is of cinnamon, dark fruits (namely plum), and carmelly candy sugar. The flavor is incredibly complex with the palate morphing through various flavors. The nose is of a big malty mouthfeel which gives way to a sweet unmistakably Belgian flavor and then it finishes strong with some tartness and a bit of alcohol. There also seems to be a good deal of carbonation. hoooraybeer (48), Cranford, New Jersey, USA May 18, 2008
Pours light amber with faint fruity aroma.dry cola flavor with plums but refreshing a d not sticky sweet. Very drinkable. Could have use just al little more butte. But ots nicely balanced . I ’dso it again. Crafty07 (391), Florence, Kentucky, USA May 13, 2008 No. Many strong ales do a wonderful job of hiding thier especially strong alcohol content. This ’Donker’ fails miserably. Far too strong, this complex mess is undrinkable. Beershine (2677), Hue, Vietnam May 13, 2008 Bottle. Deep mahogany, lasting tan head, lacing. Aroma of red delicious including the skin and dark spots. Some dates too. Smooth mouthfeel, gets smoother as it warms. Sweet apple throughout the flavors: a rather simplistic profile with lots of sweet, some alcohol, and not much else. Mellow, warming, nice. foodtraveller (26), Belgium May 10, 2008 Updated: May 15, 2008I definitely like this beer, but it is a beer for after a meal almost as a dessert. Rather sweet, with freshness and complexity even if lot of caramel in there. Geuzelambix (110), København, Denmark May 7, 2008 One hell of a sweet beer. Maybe it will be better in front of a fireplace after a walk in the snow - since when we had it (or my friends did) in Ghent, it was too sweet and not suited for the meal we were eating. tomer (365), Rishon Le Zion, Israel Apr 23, 2008 0.33L bottle. Deep dark brown with burgundy red taintes, Small head dissapearing almost instantly. Rich malty nose upfront, later coffee notes and some yeasty notes which are a little skunky. Flavour dominated by sweet dark chocolate wiyh some friutness behind. The sweetness is to strong and a bit cloying carring into a long aftertaste which is overly sweet. Body is medium to full.
