COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A strong Belgian brown ale.
After extensive tasting, trying to fulfil increasingly strict requirements, the brewmaster obtains a creamy, dark Belgian brown ale: Kasteelbier. The quality of the past is still unmatched and the beloved taste is very much of the present. Kasteelbier is a dark, artisanal beer, soft and mild, full and creamy. It can age for many, many years, as indicated on the bottle. 11% abv, serve at 12°C (54°F) (Translation by Martinus)

A fine Belgique, with solid castle foundations, pours very dark brown impenetrable to all light, quick head, fairly high fizz, but calms, taste is chocolate truffles, sweet and sticky, cola, spices ,slight bitterness, and creamy, glad I bought six more bottles! Superb

Yesterday I tried Kasteel Donker for the first time. I liked the creamy texture of the beer, its appearance and aroma. This beer has a promosing complex taste, but the touches of sweetness and alcohol dominate other flavours too much. An ok beer, but not my type.

Shared bottle at Cardinal. Pours dark brown. Aroma of plums, ripe bananas, nuts. Very sweet taste; caramel, plums, dried fruits, alcohol. Complex taste, but drowns in sweetness.

Mooi donkerbruin bier, met witte schuimkraag. Zoetige moutgeur, caramel. Zoete smaak, caramel, mout, pruimen. Als je van zoet bier houdt is dit een heerlijk biertje met een prettige zoetige nasmaak. Mooie donkere Belg!

Pours a weird brown (just like that kids’ drink, Quik) without much for a head but still manage to produce some lacing. Nose is of chocolate, sweets, slight dark fruits and some alcohol. Taste is really sweet with some raisins, simple syrup and really sugary overall. Alcohol is pretty discrete for a 11% ABV brew. Body is full, carbonation moderate and mouthfeel just sticky/syrupy. Overall an OK beer, nothing bad but nothing surprisingly good either.

Bottle from friend at work on return from Belgium. Dark brown beer with a head around the rim of the glass that leaves just a oily rim. Aroma is caramel, prunes, dark malts and a little licorice. Taste is treacle, sugar, dark malts, figs, a hint of spice and sweet sticky finish. Full bodied sticky palate. Excellent beer.

Very dark, mahogany pour with ruby highlights and good head. Great esters and alcohols with raisins, apples and lots of christmas spice. Warming flavours with more apples and a winey grape note that finishes with some toastiness. Dry and medium on mouthfeel with high carb.
