COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A strong Belgian brown ale.
After extensive tasting, trying to fulfil increasingly strict requirements, the brewmaster obtains a creamy, dark Belgian brown ale: Kasteelbier. The quality of the past is still unmatched and the beloved taste is very much of the present. Kasteelbier is a dark, artisanal beer, soft and mild, full and creamy. It can age for many, many years, as indicated on the bottle. 11% abv, serve at 12°C (54°F) (Translation by Martinus)

(Drinking date: 29 March 2014) Black beer with a fast disappearing white head of foam. Aroma could be more overwhelming. Sweet aroma of alcohol, chocolate and ripe dark dried fruits. The taste is really sweet, chocolaty, and dark ripe fruits. Nice taste. A bit of a bitter aftertaste. The beer could have been thicker and the carbonation could have been a bit less, but overall it is okay. (Edit: actually, the carbonation is not too much.) Overall, this is a good and delicious beer. Taste and aroma of alcohol, ripe dark fruits (plums and figs) and chocolate. The aroma could have been more overwhelming/powerfull, but still this is a delicious beer. Not the best in this kind, but still really tasty! That?s why I give it the total score of 3.6!

Dark brown full body. Aroma of Red wine, caramel and alcohol. Pretty much the same taste with added raisins and sweet grapes. Not at all bitter. Fills the mouth with belgium.

Small bottle, 33cl. Had this beer from year to year. And always, something is off a little bit from being 5/5. Sometimes it is to yeasty, sometimes to watery. Still a super beer, from excellent brewery.

Aroma: dried fruits, alcohol, sweetness. Appearance: nice clear amber color, poor beige head. Taste: low bitterness, nice warming alcohol, cherry - porto notes, raisin, sweet coming from dark malts, chocolate. Palate: full body, medium carbonation, nice long warming finish, oily texture. Overall: I am not a huge fan of belgium beers, but this stuff is much better than I thought. Complex taste is the biggest advantage of this beer.

8 ounce sample at Preserve in Winters (several weeks ago). 2009 Vintage. The aroma has some vinous sweet notes with plum and grape. Light wood. Super wine-like. Moderately hazy ruddy-brown body with a slight cream-colored head present. Starts with significantly sweet, sugary notes. Has some molasses in the middle, before this becomes very vinous and grape-like late. This tastes a lot like a good port wine. Wow.

750 ml bottle shared with calm_dreamer. Dark ruby red color, clear with a very thin white foam, leaving only a ring. Aromas of red wine, caramel, alcohol, dark fruits. Taste pretty much the same, very sweet with notes of red grapes, dark fruits and sugar added. Very sweet and syrupy aftertaste. Full body with low carbonation.

750ml bottle (Old Notes)-Pours a hazy brown with a small beige head. Aroma of fruits, yeast, and caramel. Taste of the same with some brown sugar coming thru. This full bodied brew is quite tasty.

330ml bottle from Appellation Wines - Cheers Ash! Pours dark brown, thin ring of beige head. Kinda looks like coca cola. Aromas has booze, toffee, raisins, hint of marzipan. Taste is very sweet, again the cola likeness. More raisins and dark toffee. Too sweet for me.
