smartlung (154), Valrico, Florida, USA Nov 19, 2007 Very sweet as Kastel beers are but a bit too sweet for my palate. Decent job of covering the alcohol dwyerpg (2519), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Nov 17, 2007 A nice sweet aroma. A crazy flavor too, almost so sweet that it covers all the alcohol. If you can get past the sweetness this is quite enjoyable. Svesse (2596), Hässelby, Sweden Nov 17, 2007 (Bottle, Akkurat, Stockholm, 17 Nov 2007) Dark brown colour with ruby hints, brief beige head. Malty nose with dark bread, brown sugar and hints of berries (blueberries or black-currant). Malty taste with notes of dark danish rye bread, chocolate, black-currant and marzipan. Full body. Fairly sweet and with an obvious alcohol bite, but still in good balance. Nice, hearty and warming. PhillyHomeBrew (176), Forest Hills, New York, USA Nov 16, 2007 Redish brown body with very little head. Smooth with flavors and acidity reminiscent of red wine like cherrie, but still has tons of malt flavor. DSG (1501), Tel Aviv, Israel Nov 7, 2007 Updated: Mar 5, 2009Re-rate 3/4/09: Bottle. Sweet, alcoholic, plenty or dark fruits and caramel. 7/3/7/4/14=3.5
Bottle sample as "Kasteel Brune" at a beer festival in Kibbutz Ma’abarot. Deep red color. Nose of malt, dark fruits, some yeast and notes of alcohol. Sweet malt flavor with dark fruits and a spicy finish. Medium to full-bodied. Mouthfeel is a bit syrupy. Nice. 7/4/7/4/15=3.7 wetherel (1565), Encinitas, California, USA Nov 4, 2007 Had at Logan’s Oceanside beer tasting with AlohaC, and Hair, and Matt, and Ken, and Bill, and others. Dark amber color. Sweet, caramelized melanoidin characteristics. Very sweet. EKGoldings (447), Radford, Virginia, USA Nov 2, 2007 Yuk. Way too sweet for me. Nice malt and toffee aroma, but the taste made me gag. RaphaelN (195), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Oct 31, 2007 Bottle at St. Veronus. Dark pour into a trappist glass. Nose was acidic, with hints of cardamom, some other spices I couldn’t make out, and heavy amounts of sugar with a touch of alcohol. Taste was sweet. Large amounts of brown sugar, cider, plums and licorice finish. This was a wonderful beer, but a tad too sweet for my liking. Definitely a worthwhile brew.
