Kasteelbier Donker

Clear reddish brown beer with a short lived beige head. Hair spray alcohol and dry fruit nose. Sweet beer with lots of alcohol, dark fruit, juicy plum, melted toffee and caramel. Very tingely on the tongue.

The aroma is sweet and fruity with dark fruit and yeast. The appearance is dark brown with an average head. The flavor is like the aroma. The palate is OK. The beer is good.

A rich fruity beer with some caramel and dark fruit flavors, looks great with its cloudy appearance. This is a real winner.

Bottle sampled. Pours a deep brown with a small off-white head. Aroma of caramel, dark malts, fruit, and some toffee. Flavor is full bodied and complex with raisins, dark fruits, brown sugar, caramel, and some belgian spices with a nice warming alcohol finish.

750ml bottle with Kasteelbier Bruin-Brune label. Pours a cloudy reddish-brown with a minimal fizzy head. Aroma has caramel, refreshing alcohol and bits of malt here and there. Flavor isn’t strong... beginning is creamy and fizzy, the finish is long with lots of crisp alcohol. Even though this one doesn’t mask the alcohol at all, it doesn’t overpower any of the other qualities and incorporates itself nicely. A nice beer, but not the best belgian brown I’ve had and certainly not in the top 20 list. I’ll only come back to this one if it’s cheap.

Deep amber brown with a fine red hew & creamy off white head. Aroma is sweet - malty caramel, bready, sugary, light alcohol & dark fruits. Soft & filling body/texture. Sweet taste - Sugar, malts & slight alcohol warmth. Very complex & well made. Light Vinous & warm with a long finish.. Very great!

Bottle @ Samson, Nijmegen. Deep red with only a thin film head - lightly off white. Aroma is bready, dried fruits, raisins, some grapes; very nice fruity aroma all in all. Wondeful mouthfeel. Very sweet, lightly vinious, caramel, plums, raisins. Warms me up nicely. Perhaps a little too sweet.

as "Kasteel Bier Bruin - Brune", Bottled 06/2006. Drank today. Extremely sweet beer, with a heavy alcohol flavor. Overall it isn’t bad, but extremely sweet, as it warms it becomes more difficult to drink (at least for me).
