Fin (3376), Merton, Oxfordshire, England Jan 13, 2007 Bottle that came in a mixed box that I received for Christmas. This really took me by suprise quite simply superb. The beer poured a very dark brown colour with a great malt, molasses and spices in the aroma. this was so smooth and velvety enveloping your tongue with a multitude of flavours again a gorgeously rich malty sweetness yes the alcohol is always lingering around in the background but it never overpowers and as this beer warms it just improves and offers further facets of its character. This really was a top notch beer. rickgordon (3285), Göteborg, Sweden Jan 10, 2007 [Bottled. 2 yrs old.]
Muddy brown colour. Plum nose, bit sourish and sugary. Sticky mouthfeel with notes of white sugar and marzipan. Alcohol is clearly evident. Bit too sweet overall, which makes it hard to define the mouthfeel anything but cloying. Marsiblursi (1631), Göteborg, Sweden Jan 8, 2007 (Bottle) Pours brown with red notes. Earthy, dark fruit, raisin aroma with some dark cherries and notes of funky chocolate. Very sweet and sugary. Caramel to candy. Thick mouthfeel. Very sweet flavour with raisins and brown sugar in the finish. Maybe some dark fruits. Big body with some alcohol. hophead75 (1945), Boonton, New Jersey, USA Jan 3, 2007 very dark murky brown with a small off white head. Aroma is dark fruits, caramel, and spices. Taste is caramel, toffee, alot of fruit notes, sweet, almost to the point of being cloying but not quite. Sweet finish with spices. as with most belgians, better and more complex as it warms. Arayaga2 (932), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 31, 2006 Updated: Oct 2, 2007Dark brown with a nice appley malty aroma, which comes through in the taste. It is quite smooth, nicely carbonated, and works well with the high alcohol. This deliciousness of this product made my grandma smile $8/750ml ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA Dec 29, 2006 Dark brownish red with a small head, good lacing, average retention. Aroma is plums, dark sugars, chocolate, caramel, berries. Flavor brings this all with a slight alcohol burn that lingers, but you’d never guess 11%. Extremely delicate smoothness for a beer like this. Quite sweet, but very enjoyable. Man, it’s been too long since I’ve had a nice Belgian. larsga (2937), Oslo, Norway Dec 27, 2006 Small light beige head. Dark red translucent body. Tight vinuous peppery aroma of licorice and alcohol with notes of chocolate. Quite harmonic. Taste is deep, sweet licorice and chocolate, with strong spicy notes, and a cardamom finish. Very harmonic, and hard to analyze, but very, very nice. Quite a bit of alcohol heat, and you can taste a little alcohol as well. (0.33l bottle.) johninmelb (688), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England Dec 23, 2006 Gentle nose of light sweet malt with some spiced fruit. Pours muddy dark brown with a quickly thinning head and some lace. Flavour is rich toffee malt with a lingering plum pudding finish with brandy notes and figs.
