A strong Belgian brown ale.
After extensive tasting, trying to fulfil increasingly strict requirements, the brewmaster obtains a creamy, dark Belgian brown ale: Kasteelbier. The quality of the past is still unmatched and the beloved taste is very much of the present. Kasteelbier is a dark, artisanal beer, soft and mild, full and creamy. It can age for many, many years, as indicated on the bottle. 11% abv, serve at 12°C (54°F) (Translation by Martinus)

Bottle from Real ale, Newark. Deep colour black colour with no head. Sweet caramel aroma and taste that just dominates anything else. Thin body.

0.3l bottle. Very arousing aroma of fruity ale, sweetnes strikes early on the tongue. Aftertaste is cold and abprupt, moderate carbs.

Bottle. Dark brown, beige head quickly fading. Sweet aromas and very sweet taste, doesn’t stick in the throat though. Would make a great substitute for a dessert wine. (In a good way).

0.33 l bottle from local AH, best before July 2020. Clear, very dark red with a thin, frothy, slowly diminishing, tan head. Sweetish-malty aroma of caramel, brown sugar, hints of raisins and alcohol. Sweet-malty taste of caramel, brown sugar, licorice and hints of raisins, followed by medium long, moderately bitter, slightly warming and a little alcoholic finish. Medium body, slightly creamy mouthfeel, average carbonation. Very sweet and not very sophisticated in its flavours, but rather monotonous. The brewery should at least bring back bottle conditioning and increase its aging potential. Only mediocre for me.

This beer is very sweet. Aromas: smell is agressive, just like concentrated fruit sirup, chemical sweetener (saccharose probably), sugar, candi, caramel, dark fruits. Apperance: dark ruby coulor, a bit of shortlasting brown foam. Taste: Candi, chemicals, saccharose, caramel, malts. Palate: sugar, sugar and again sugar. I don’t really understand the high ratings, the taste is good, there is no doubt... but it doesn’t taste like beer, it tastes like an alcoholized and very sweet drink, a bit chemical, just like a soda, you don’t feel the hop or the yeast. Lack of yeast at the bottom. Lack of bitterness. Too much sweetness. The sweetness hiding the other aromas/flavours.

Bottle at home. Pours dark reddish brown with a beige head. Aroma of caramel, malts, candy sugar, yeast, light metallic, dark fruits, alcohol. Taste is heavy sweet, candy sugar, malts, caramel, dark fruits, light alcohol. Sweet caramel candy sugar with a hint of dark fruits aftertaste. Not bad, bit too sweet for me though.
