badlizard (2324), Berkeley, California, USA Jun 28, 2009 Tasted at the San Diego International Beer Festival. Medium brown with a fluffy borwn head. Faint aroma and a plum and sugar taste. handsomjan (4), Taipei, Taiwan does not count Jun 23, 2009 The color is dark brown with thin head. The palate is sweet, tasting like bitter chocolate. Medium to full bodied with in-mouth impression of rye in the finish. I like it. FatguyRacer (128), Crownsville, Maryland, USA Jun 22, 2009 Bottle. Looks good, smells good, tastes not so good. It’s way too sweet. Very heavy on the malt. It’s OK if you want only one. If it weren’t so expensive, It would make a really good stock for a beef stew. I like the bottle and the lable. kask (15), Toender, Denmark Jun 18, 2009 Dark brown color. Head is very small.
Smell of raisin, brown sugar and alcohol. Taste have notes of raisin, brown sugar and a lot of alcohol. Carbonation is flat, the body is full, texture is thick.
It is very sweet and the alcohol is quite dominating. Its is almost lika a liqueur.
Unlike many raters on this site, im not a sucker for beers with high amount of alcohol, so i am not impressed at all. gorditoabd (162), San Diego, California, USA Jun 11, 2009 11.2 oz bottle. Bought this one for the awesome name. Donker... still giggling. Pours a cold coffee color, almost no head. Very sweet, almost vinegar and apple juice aroma. Wow, very sweet taste. But then comes around and is nicely bitter at the end. The booze is definitely notable, but not bad. There is an earthy flavor here, which is nice, especially as it blends with the fruitiness, which I’m having trouble specifying. It’s a bit like a porter on steroids. Hurray for the Donker!
Upon further review, this really was TOO SWEET!!! Was that annoying? Yeah, pouring this down my drain was too. tmc90 (17), Belgium Jun 10, 2009 Warming alcohol and nice nutty brown color. Unfortunately that’s all i can say about this beer because it is so undrinkably sweet that I couldn’t even finish it. My least favourite beer ever. mbuisman79 (133), Amsterdam, Netherlands Jun 2, 2009 sound of the pour is nice and clear. Not too much foam. Black as night but with a slight reddish hue. Rusty smell. Just a little too sweet but the alcohol warming is nice. emacgee (1859), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Jun 1, 2009 Pours a dark brown with thin light tan head. The nose is rich, sweet, fruity, plum, spicy alcohol, Belgian yeast, earthy. The flavor is warm, fruity, nice collaboration of flavor, port/plum flavors, spicy. Enjoyed this. Warm palate with nice carbonation.
