A strong Belgian brown ale.
After extensive tasting, trying to fulfil increasingly strict requirements, the brewmaster obtains a creamy, dark Belgian brown ale: Kasteelbier. The quality of the past is still unmatched and the beloved taste is very much of the present. Kasteelbier is a dark, artisanal beer, soft and mild, full and creamy. It can age for many, many years, as indicated on the bottle. 11% abv, serve at 12°C (54°F) (Translation by Martinus)

This beer is very sweet. Aromas: smell is agressive, just like concentrated fruit sirup, chemical sweetener (saccharose probably), sugar, candi, caramel, dark fruits. Apperance: dark ruby coulor, a bit of shortlasting brown foam. Taste: Candi, chemicals, saccharose, caramel, malts. Palate: sugar, sugar and again sugar. I don’t really understand the high ratings, the taste is good, there is no doubt... but it doesn’t taste like beer, it tastes like an alcoholized and very sweet drink, a bit chemical, just like a soda, you don’t feel the hop or the yeast. Lack of yeast at the bottom. Lack of bitterness. Too much sweetness. The sweetness hiding the other aromas/flavours.

Bottle at home. Pours dark reddish brown with a beige head. Aroma of caramel, malts, candy sugar, yeast, light metallic, dark fruits, alcohol. Taste is heavy sweet, candy sugar, malts, caramel, dark fruits, light alcohol. Sweet caramel candy sugar with a hint of dark fruits aftertaste. Not bad, bit too sweet for me though.

Lækker belgisk strong ale. Frisk og behagelig smag. Tilpas med humle og bitterhed.

Bottle 33. Bière allant incontestablement vers le sucre : nez et bouche respirant candi, caramel, chocolat ... Bon mais pas pour boire au quotidien car le sucre cache les autres caractéristiques de cette brune.

33cl Flasche "Kasteel Bier Bruine-Brune". Dunkelbraunes Bier mit cremigem flachem Schaum. Schweres malzig-süsses Aroma. Dörrpflaumen. Geschmack alkoholisch.

Copenhagen 9/1 2016. 75 cl bottle from Meny. Almost look like a bottle of wine - even when you look at the alcohol content. Pours very dark reddish brown with small off-white head. Dissapears quite quickly leaving only small patches of foam. Very moderate lacing. Aroma of yeast, caramel and brown sugar. And something slightly sour in the background. Suprisingly not much alcohol. Lively carbonation and creamlike palate. Taste is quite sweet. Sugary caramel. Followed by quite pronounced bitterness which dominates the aftertaste. Sharp tang of alcohol. If you need to get plastered in a hurry I can only recommend this one. It actually taste quite well - so it will be a pleasant journey into stupor.
