Oct 15, 2006 I have a big bottle on the top of my shelf. Relic... In my opinion the beer was so sweet and strong. So strong! The alcohol put down the flavour. It is not my favourite Belgian beer.

Oct 15, 2006 Bottle at home. Decent head, caramel colored. Very sweet, plums and toffees. I would say way too sweet and way too much alcohol in the finish. Probably an excellent beer for some -- but not for me.

Oct 3, 2006 (750ml bottle, cork 8/04) Pillowy, medium beige head atop a clear deep chestnut body. Nice lacing. Aroma is sweet, plum/raisin, vinous, caramel, some candi sugar, perfume. Taste is very sweet, caramel, plum, honeydew, light wood. Some alcohol warming in the finish. Smooth full body with low carbonation. With its sweetness, this seems like what Avery is trying to do with Beast or Samael, only this is better.

Sep 29, 2006 Bottle at The Dove Free House, Hackney. Dark rubyred with a frothy head. Rich raisins and plums aroma. Fruity and sweet with lots of plums flavour. warming alcohol. Full-bodied. Rich and nice, but a bit too sweet.

Sep 24, 2006 33cl bottle: This one pours a slightly hazy caramel brown. There was a very small head on mine. The aroma is quite nice. Caramel malt comes through, with some breadiness. Some fruits in there also, possibly raisins and plums. Very full, rich taste. Some candi sugar, plums, breadiness, many others. An exceptional brew.

Sep 22, 2006 Bottled(330ml). -My was Kasteelbier Brune 11. Dark brown coloured, small beige head. Aroma is very malty and fruity (cherries, raisins, plums), tastes like port or sherry with burnt candy sugar . Light chocolate and toffee notes. Strong alcohol presence and a way too sweet.

Sep 21, 2006 Bottle from 2003. My god, this one was intense... at first I enjoyed it but as I kept drinking, well... I became unsure. Dark, hazy, reddish-brown color... some soapy bubbles on the surface and a thick ring of micro-bubbles around the glass. Very sweet, malty, nutty and fruity aroma. Huge, powerful flavors--somewhat citrusy and acidic. Strong presence of fresh fruits (cherries, raisins), dark candy sugar... really REALLY sweet. Some alcoholic harshness, and some strange (somewhat unpleasant) bitterness thrown in there. Not very well-balanced at all. I was very excited to try this one but was disappointed.
