bask (305), Leuven, Belgium Aug 25, 2005 Brown beer with a tiny off white head. Aroma of grapes and other dried fruits, some alcohol. Same flavour, with a vivid mouthfeel and somewhat syropy. More sweet than bitter, and the alcohol is difficult to notice. Some sourness in the finish. IPFreely (1470), Lewiston, New York, USA Aug 25, 2005 Bottle labeled as Kasteel Bruin. Chestnut color, tan head, diminishing. Sweet malt, raisin, caramel, rum, and banana. Full creamy body, alcohol is noticible, but hardly. Very nice beer, goes down effortlessly for such a big beer. roder60 (1019), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 19, 2005 Poured a light clear brown auburn color with a very small amount of quickly dissapating white head. Aroma is sweet, rasiny, syrup, and rum. Flavor is sour and totally dominated by alcohol. The sweet notes found in the aroma are totally lost on the palate. Overall, I found this to be one step above paint thinner and I poured the rest of the bottle out rather than drink it. I really disliked this beer immensely. Sofajoern (146), Denmark Aug 18, 2005 Sweet aroma with hints of banana, caramel, and raisins. Deep reddish brown colour with almost no head though it still draws lace. Almost no carbonation and taste of chocolate, ripe fruits, and caramel.
Might be good for dessert - possibly on its own. Sregnar35 (729), Rotterdam, New York, USA Jul 31, 2005 On tap at Mahar’s in Albany. Dark, sour tasting belgian beer, with too much alcohol on the palate. Sten (288), Westerlo, Belgium Jul 24, 2005 A dark brown beerwith hints of chocolade, at my opinion the blonde is much better. This one is way to sweet for me. (Bottle 33cl) rgrep (150), Wellington, New Zealand Jul 23, 2005 (V2003) This beer is garnet in hue with virtually no head and a very complex aroma featuring brown sugar, fruit syrup and a dash of warming alcohol. The body is bright and mouthfilling with an array of flavours including port, black currant and ripe plum. The finish is long and slow but never bitter. Styles (1653), Lincoln Park, Michigan, USA Jul 22, 2005 Courteys of Matta in my very first trade. Pours dark ruby/brown with no head. Lots of sweet caramel malt in the aroma, very bread-like. Flavor is all sweet malt and sugar with a tiny bit of alcohol. Lots of resisuel sugar. Too sweet for sure. 4-5oz sample would be enough for a dessert.
