shrubber85 (2832), Wallhalben, Germany May 8, 2005 Bottle. Sweet grape/raisin aroma. Dark brown color with next to no head. Extremely sweet malt and slight astrigent finish - really not to my liking - way too sweet. Cornfield (4892), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Apr 26, 2005 Vintage 11/2003, according to the cork: The commercial description, "A strong Belgian brown ale," seems to say it all. It pours a dark brown color with ruby highlights and a tall, bubbly tan head. The aroma is MALT, sweet, caramel, and strong. Add some dried dark fruits, some molassess, and some spices. The flavor is robust with sweet malt, fruits, and alcohol. The finish is a long, alcoholic sweetness. Very nice. DerWeg (748), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 14, 2005 33cl, aged one year.Deep red, medium beige head. Mild sweet aroma, clean and softly spicy. Forward, BIG Malzbier sweetness leads into rich caramelized malty tones. Tasting some spice and dark dried fruits, heady 11-per alcohol presence. Good but needs FAR more ageing IMO, still too much ’baby fat’ in this for me to tolerate a full bottle. Me, a dessert wine fan! Jukkabro (2981), Tampere, Finland Apr 9, 2005 Very dark red color, little beige head. Sweet, mild caramel aroma with hints of alcohol. Medium to full bodied. Strongly sweet flavor, mild spices and nice caramel tones. Ends with strong and lasting sweetness, mild alcohol comes up fine. Flavor is stronger than aroma. I like this brew. AndersR (194), Århus, Denmark Apr 6, 2005 Small fat bottle. Poors a dark brown color with a (for a belgian) small tan head. Very vineous flavor (smells somewhat like a rohne wine?:-) with a sharp yeasty edge. Flavor is very very sweet -much too sweet for my taste. Its by far the sweetest bruine i have tasted. The alchol isnt sharp but a warm feeling in the throat tells you that this one holds quite a percentage! A good bruine but too sweet for my tooth. JensenTaster (1585), Denmark Apr 3, 2005 (on bottle, thanx for sharing Mr. Brog) Deep brown, claer color. Extremly sweet on the coffee-caramel-side. Some melases and prunes too. Bit sugarish and sticky though. Mklein818 (165), Etterbeek, Virginia, Belgium Mar 31, 2005 Updated: Aug 1, 2007A true contender for the best beer in the world. Deep, sharp, mellifluous. About the best thing you could drink before bed--heaven in a glass.
