COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A strong Belgian brown ale.
After extensive tasting, trying to fulfil increasingly strict requirements, the brewmaster obtains a creamy, dark Belgian brown ale: Kasteelbier. The quality of the past is still unmatched and the beloved taste is very much of the present. Kasteelbier is a dark, artisanal beer, soft and mild, full and creamy. It can age for many, many years, as indicated on the bottle. 11% abv, serve at 12°C (54°F) (Translation by Martinus)

Deep red with brownness and a tight light brown cap that lasts thinly. Sweet fake cherry aroma, very strong sweetness, light spices, warmth, yeast, brown sugar, fluffy cake, light alcohol. Very sweet and fruity - too much so but very very fragrant. The taste is similar with more spice and yeast, caramel, marzipan, weak burn, toasted almonds, digging this now that it’s 1AM and I just finished watching Ferris Bueller’s Day Off for the first time in at least 15 years - damn - this movie not only holds up, it’s still really damn funny. Now is the perfect time to drink three quarters of a bottle of 11% beer. Rum and raisin, more alcohol heat when room temperature. I like this better room temp. Finishes smooth with a hearty spice and sweetness. I dig this now. Tasty stuff. Interesting after taste. I’m tired.

Sour cherry, fig, and cider vinegar aroma. Clear garnet, headless, non-viscous. Decidedly sweet flavor of cherry and figs. Finishes with maraschino cherries and creme. Very distinct transitions. Delicious but completely lacks balance. Drinks a little hot. Very much like cherry liqueur.

Nice dark colored beer, but a little too much sweetness for me. Good beer in it’s style though.

Very interesting beer, light aroma but very strong, sweet and complex malty taste. Kind of an extreme belgian beer.

Bottle, shared with Parksy. Hazy russet brown, mediocre tan head that fades rather quickly. Very sweet aroma and flavours of soft dark fruits, sticky barley candy sugar, spices, marzipan, and nuances of dark rum. Like a dubbel on steroids. a bit too sweet and hot, I’m glad I had Parksy to share with.

$7 at Chokdee in Vientiane. Nice. Big meat brown that shows very good balance for such a high abv beer. Fantastic core of stewed fruit sweetness and milk chocolate negates the aniseed from the alcohol nicely and makes for a very to drink quaffing style. An excellent example but of course slightly hard going in the tropics.
