GregClow (2493), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 5, 2004 Bottle from LCBO. Deep brown-red colour. Very still body with a small tan head. Sweet aroma of prunes and chocolate toffee, with a strong bozzy punch. Flavour matches the aroma well, with the addition of licorice and raisins. Long, warming finish with some medicinal notes. I found the sweetness a little off-putting at first, but as the beer warmed up a bit, I got used to it and found this to be a fantastic winter warmer. mrkimchee (1414), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 5, 2004 clear deep brown, beige head. aroma of toffee, booze, raisins, chocolate and yeast. flavour follows with burnt sugar and roasty malt with some winey and anisey notes. boozy finish with a bit of vanilla. very tasty. beerbuzzmontreal (2909), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Dec 3, 2004 330 ml 2003 bottle, Kasteelbier glass. Opaque brown color with a thin, creamy, light brown head that leaves nice lacing on the glass. Appealing aroma of licorice, toffee, malt and bread. The flavor is a bit more assertive than the aroma but it’s not overpowering, I taste licorice first, then malt, toffee, alcohol and bread. Light to medium body, very smooth, creamy and comfortable mouthfeel, it feels like a soft bed for the tongue, soft carbonation. If this beer had a bit more body it would be amazing, but still it’s very good, delicate and sensual, it gently caresses my tastebuds, a very enjoyable way to start a weekend ! mds (2112), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 2, 2004 bottle. aroma is nutty, malty, along with some caramel. colour is a very dark mahogany with a small-ish off-white head. flavour is almost excessively sweet, notes of dark fruit. alcohol provides a good warming feel for a cool winter’s day like today. Burner (78), Cape Town, South Africa Dec 1, 2004 Very very dark rich beer! Had the draught version, so the bottled version must have even more flavour. Chocolatey undertones and burn grass ( wink wink chokehold) very intense flavour that marks the remarkably high ABV. Great after dinner beer! wnp22 (682), Toronto (Roncesvalles Village), Ontario, Canada Nov 29, 2004 Tasted in Toronto. Obtained from the LCBO. Tasted in trappist glass. Pours a deep dark red / almost black colour. Thin white head eventually leaves the glass entirely. Aroma is sweet, toffee, burnt caramel, sugar, plums, bread/yeast and malt. Smells like a rich plum pudding. Flavour is intensely sweet. Deep plum sweet taste with a syrupy mouthfeel and incredibly sweet (almost sickly sweet) aftertaste. Good warmer on a winter day. footbalm (1218), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Nov 25, 2004 Pours a delicious mohagany with a pillowy cream head that leaves a thick lacing as it shrinks down to the brew.Nose is that that is so typical of the belgian Strong Ales, shit, heavenly combo of dark exotic fruit and bananas and alcohol.Toffee and a basket of dates ,bananas and raisins.DEEElicious.Thick and lovely on the tongue. caledonian (367), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Nov 24, 2004 Dark with red tinge, not much head. As a pleasant surprise, the alcohol isn’t really noticable in the flavor, although it does pack a kick that is noticed as the glass nears empty. Some notes of caramel, and raisins. Overall, not bad, would go well with Scottish Christmas pudding.
