I rated this when i still liked brown (dubbel) beers. Now i don’t really like these as much as before. This is my favorite one though. A bit too sweet and caramel-ish to me. Lovely glass.

33cl bottle. Pours a translucent brown with only one ring of beige head. Mild aroma, a little booze, dark fruit, light sweetness. Flavor was light, sweet, malty, caramel, spice, dried fruits, candy sugar. Finish is full bodied and a little dry. Didn’t blow my mind.

Bottle. Poured dark amber with a thin white head. Malty, sugary fruity aroma. Flavor very similar, yeast, fruit and malt, alcohol warmth in finish. Nice strong ale, alcohol well hidden. Bit on the sweet side though for me.

Würziger, sehr schwerer Antrunk. Eine deutliche alkoholische Süße ist präsent, angesichts des Alkohols ist diese aber mild.Stark aromatisch, besonder sticht die Süße hervor, eine malzige Note ist erstaunlich mild und gefasst im Hintergrund. Vollmundig, vergoren fruchtig, etwas nach Traube und Birne. Zum Ende aromatischer, die Süße macht einen in Teilen unangenehmen Sprung, der von den anderen Aromen nicht mehr aufgefangen werden kann. Gut ausbalanciertes Bier, dem ein Hauch weniger Alkohol wohl dennoch nicht geschadet hätte. 8/12/10/11/10/11

Sampled at an ESBLS tasting. Dark brown with a small tan head. It is quite cloudy. A yeasty aroma with chocolate, dark fruit, and a big of funk. A big malt start. Big alcohol, too. Dark fruit and light licorice. Alcohol is too big here but this is tasty.

Probably my favorite of the Kasteel family. I bought a case of this in the 25oz bottle. It is an 11% ABV, but the smoothness of this beer hides the hide alcohol in the taste. But, you will feel the effects. Nice brown color pours with a foaming head. A true Belgium, there is not a heavy CO2 mixture, and a nice balance of beginning malty, middle little hops, and finish taste to it.
