COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A strong Belgian brown ale.
After extensive tasting, trying to fulfil increasingly strict requirements, the brewmaster obtains a creamy, dark Belgian brown ale: Kasteelbier. The quality of the past is still unmatched and the beloved taste is very much of the present. Kasteelbier is a dark, artisanal beer, soft and mild, full and creamy. It can age for many, many years, as indicated on the bottle. 11% abv, serve at 12°C (54°F) (Translation by Martinus)

Bottle bought in Delhaize, Brugge, Belgium. Deep ruby/brown coloured pour with a healthy beige head on top. Aroma of dark fruit and caramel. Tastes of dark fruit, caramel, sweet, malty, spice, very rich. Surprisingly smooth and easy to drink despite the strength. Quality Belgian ale.

Bottle. Pours a clear, fairly dark brown with some reddish overtones. Not much head at all. Aroma is rather port wine-like with some Belgian yeast thrown in for good measure. Taste is sweet, but not too much so, and complex. Alcohol is very well hidden. Palate is full and round. An excellent beer. Half of the bottle was used for a brown sauce for roast beef and roasted root vegetables. Excellent if I may say so myself. Will definitely be having this again.

Kasteel Bruin on väriltään tumman ruskea, hieman punertava ja omaa beigen vaahdon. Tuoksultaan se on hedelmäinen, karamellinen, mausteinen ja hiivainen. Sen maku on makea, kypsän hedelmäinen, hieman mausteinen ja hieman hiivainen. Hedelmäisyys on tämän oluen tapauksessa erittäin herkullista. Jonkinlaista luumun tunnetta löytyy. Hieman alkoakin on, mutta minua se harvemmin häiritsee, eikä tässäkään tapauksessa ole ollenkaan näin. Paksu ja pehmeä nektari.

Outstanding dark beer. The sweetness of it is very pleasing at first, but tends to get to you after a few.

Bottle split with maniac. July 2006 bottle. Pours a murky brown with fair ring of tan head. Big raisin and malty, UBER sweet and modest cakeyness. Still a little hot even with 5 years age. But pretty tasty.

Typical Belgian strong but thinner on the palate -- which is good, because I find many Belgians overly sweet and not complex enough.
