A strong Belgian brown ale.
After extensive tasting, trying to fulfil increasingly strict requirements, the brewmaster obtains a creamy, dark Belgian brown ale: Kasteelbier. The quality of the past is still unmatched and the beloved taste is very much of the present. Kasteelbier is a dark, artisanal beer, soft and mild, full and creamy. It can age for many, many years, as indicated on the bottle. 11% abv, serve at 12°C (54°F) (Translation by Martinus)

From the corked, caged 2011 750 ml bottle. Beautiful looking mahogany brown with a small head that fades quickly. But despite being as dark as it is the clarity is excellent. The aroma is an inviting caramel malt sweetness, brown sugar, molasses, and bread but little to no hop profile and zero booze for 11%. Smooth medium to full body. The sweetness overtakes all of the tasting experiences in this beer but there is also a keen warming at the end. So mellow and soft. A great beer for my 3,100th RB review.

Big head on this Belgianesque brown ale. Almost a gusher. Big carbonation, earthy and malty notes, caramel and chocolate with some zesty Belgian yeast. Pretty good.

Aroma is booze, butterscotch, slight bubblegum, slight wood, caramel, fruity, spice. Appearance is dark brown, light tan head, somewhat clear. Taste is sweet, booze, candy, almost cloying, caramel, dark fruit, spices, wood, eh. Mouthfeel is medium body, light crisp carbonation, really sweet woody booze aftertaste. Overall, not as good as Chateau, but still drinkable.

330ml Flasche. Klar und schwarz mit durchschnittlicher Schaumkrone. Maziges und würziges Aroma. Intensiver Geschmack.

Aroma a licor, maltas tostadas, frutas. Sabor similar, con el alcohol bastante disimulado. Cuerpo medio. Dulce pero insuficiente.

Bottle to glass - murky cola colour, light beige head, spritzy. Aroma of grape/raisin, some yeast. Taste is weird, grape taffy, some earthiness, notes of spearmint, bubblegum. Well masked ABV, not boozy at all. Didn’t come across as a beer in clamoring to finish... To much sweet grape for me.

Creamy, warm taste. This classic remains good. High abv allows long aftertaste. Caramelly, lovely. Almost had forgotten the taste.

330ml bottle. Pours very dark brown with a medium head. Aroma is raisin, toffee, yeast and alcohol. Taste has toffee to start and a warm raisin finish. Tasty stuff.
