COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A strong Belgian brown ale.
After extensive tasting, trying to fulfil increasingly strict requirements, the brewmaster obtains a creamy, dark Belgian brown ale: Kasteelbier. The quality of the past is still unmatched and the beloved taste is very much of the present. Kasteelbier is a dark, artisanal beer, soft and mild, full and creamy. It can age for many, many years, as indicated on the bottle. 11% abv, serve at 12°C (54°F) (Translation by Martinus)

Wonderful. Had a great 75cl bottle at new year 2013, sadly at home. Enjoyed it more than the champagne. Quality Trappist ale.

Bottle 0.33L. Deep brown body with an average, frothy, tan head, mostly diminishing with a fair lacing. Malty (caramel) aroma with heavy notes of fruits (cherry), raisins, alcohol and light chocolate. Mainly sweet flavour with some bitter notes at the beginning; after a while an important fruity character comes up; some light liquorice feeling in the aftertaste. Medium body with an oily texture; soft carbonation; some alcoholic warming in the finish.

eccessivamente dolce..seppur meno dolce della montagnarde e anche di più piacevole bevuta, questa birra risulta comunque di bevuta difficile, appunto per l’eccessiva dolcezza

Pours dark brown with light brown quick head. Nose is a typical brown belgian; brown sugar, syrup, spice, light hops, and booze. Flavor hits hard on fruit and earthy notes, finishing lighter. Alcohol is fairly well hidden. Finish is sweet and long. Decent ale.

Some chocolat and coffee going on in this beer, but other than that there is a sugary overkill of sweetness. Very heavy beer plus a sweetness that does not go well with my palate makes this beer a difficult one to digest.

A sweet (very sweet) brown ale. aroma is raisins, prunes, cola. Taste is sweet, molasses, dried fruit. Appearance is nothing special, and mouthfeel is a little light but not distracting.
