A strong Belgian brown ale.
After extensive tasting, trying to fulfil increasingly strict requirements, the brewmaster obtains a creamy, dark Belgian brown ale: Kasteelbier. The quality of the past is still unmatched and the beloved taste is very much of the present. Kasteelbier is a dark, artisanal beer, soft and mild, full and creamy. It can age for many, many years, as indicated on the bottle. 11% abv, serve at 12°C (54°F) (Translation by Martinus)

Pours a dark brown beer with a good white head. Smells sweet, licorice. Way way way too sweet for me. Licorice and malts. Low carbo. Thick body and sticky texture.

33 cl. bottle, B.B. 2018 poured in to Trappist glass. Deep red-brown colour with a thin, tanned head. Sweet aroma with rich caramel malts, sweet fruits - pears, honey, marzipan, dark, dried fruits, light yeasts, a slight warmth from alcohol. As the beer warms up, some cherries as well. Taste is sweet. Full body with a thicker texture and a soft carbonation. Finishes sweet with rich caramel malts, sweet fruits, marzipan and warming alcohol. Truly a rich, malty beer, rather sweet, complexity grows as the beer warms up. Maybe a good choice for deserts.

A dark, ruby-red beer with a brown layer of foam. It has a full aroma of white wine and alcohol. Also a nice, sweet taste with a subtile bitter touch in the background. The sweet part remains for a while in the aftertaste.

Review based solely on batch at Rattle N Hum in NYC on 20 June 2014. Poured a hazy, cloudy brownish red with little to no head. Taste was syrupy sweet and flat, with some banana presence. Not what was expected. Every other time via bottle appearance has been more dark brown/black, nice initial head that dissipates after a bit. Taste like liquid chocolate with some raisin, figs, molasses, and goes down smooth with a creamy after taste. Very drinkable. Not sure why such a big difference in appearance and taste between bottles and draught but overall disappointed in the version at Rattle N Hum.

Draft at Rattle n Hum. Pours hazy brown with a thin head. Cherry-like dark fruitiness, molasses, some nutty sweetness, and toasted breads. Rich and sweet.

Medium brown head. Clear caramel-brown colour. Sweet honey aroma with a hint of pear. Bitter-sweet taste with a slightly roasty note and a lasting palate.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown, almost black color (cola) with nice frothy foam head. Aromas are dark chocolate (intense, extract almost), hint of coffee beans and vanilla cream. Big whiff reveals some barley wine. Robust, slightly sweet, very well balanced. Taste starts slightly sour, almost a little boozy, but transforms into a very robust sweetness. Mostly dark cacao. Creamy taste permeates. Aftertaste is mellow, chocolate. Perfect carbonation. Lovely mellow evolution. Next to perfect beer.
