COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A strong Belgian brown ale.
After extensive tasting, trying to fulfil increasingly strict requirements, the brewmaster obtains a creamy, dark Belgian brown ale: Kasteelbier. The quality of the past is still unmatched and the beloved taste is very much of the present. Kasteelbier is a dark, artisanal beer, soft and mild, full and creamy. It can age for many, many years, as indicated on the bottle. 11% abv, serve at 12°C (54°F) (Translation by Martinus)

I have to admit, I fell in love with this beer after my first sip, what a beautiful dark, sweet, beer. At first I thought the sweetness would be too much, I just couldn’t stop drinking it, and the aroma was beautiful, only wish I had more.

UPDATED: AUG 20, 2011 Rating reflects aged bottle. Cloyingly sweet when fresh, but aged this one of the best in the world. Aged bottle, 0.7 liter from 2002, sampled in 2007. Dark brown coloured, lasting brown head (after all these years). Strong port-like aroma and flavour, vinous notes, raisins, really complex. Great aging material. Thanks to a friend (Arjen) for this great present. Another re-rate: Bottle from 1999, sampled 2010. Eleven years old and still not at its peak. This stuff is just magnificent. May be the best beer i know. Too bad it requires so much patience,

I had this for the first time after visiting Kasteel De Harr - there just aren't enough 'o's in smooth to describe this beer! I am looking frantically for it here in the States

UPDATED: AUG 19, 2011 Simply one of the finest beers made anywhere. I am reminded each time that I have it that I am hard pressed to come up with a more pleasing and satisfying beer than this one. Mathches up well with the Oerbier as my favorites in this style +++ Sampled from a 25 oz green bottle this beer pours a dark brown color with a small tan head. There is a moderate sweet, sour, fruity and spicy aroma. The flavor is strong with fruit and a hint of spice and is quite sugary. There are elements of plum, cherry and apricot in the flavor. There is a really pleasant fruity aftertaste that lingers. A classic and a favorite.

UPDATED: AUG 1, 2007 A true contender for the best beer in the world. Deep, sharp, mellifluous. About the best thing you could drink before bed--heaven in a glass.
