COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A strong Belgian brown ale.
After extensive tasting, trying to fulfil increasingly strict requirements, the brewmaster obtains a creamy, dark Belgian brown ale: Kasteelbier. The quality of the past is still unmatched and the beloved taste is very much of the present. Kasteelbier is a dark, artisanal beer, soft and mild, full and creamy. It can age for many, many years, as indicated on the bottle. 11% abv, serve at 12°C (54°F) (Translation by Martinus)

Pours muddy brown w/ a spritzy spatter froth. Minimal hang time w/ only a thin ring of residual lace. Aroma of dark fruits, german chocolate cake, and sweet butter. Full nectar w/ very little residual effers. It’s almost still, even on the palate. Nada bubble. Big sweet complex malts w/ a mild yet defined sharp tartness, almost acidic. And I do mean sweet, barleywine sweet. This brew is very complex in nature. Flavors of fat carmeled apples and kiwi fruit. Brown sugar and molases. Huge black cherries and over ripened peach meat, plumy raisins, and brown, glazed cakebread (fruitcake). The kiwi is prominant. The finish is long and sweet w/ the kiwi fruit lingering well past it’s bedtime. This is a barleywine for sure. Overall: a good specimen but you really have to be in the mood for some serious acidic tart sweetness.

Head: coffee, smallish, frothy, avg. retention. Colour: amber-brown/chestnut, clear. Aroma: rich, sweet, caramel, licorice, alcohol, almond, dried fruit. Taste: very sweet, nutty/almond, roasted. A rich and complex beer. A fortified desert wine of the beer world.

Pours almost black with a red tint. Aroma is sweet smelling with grapes and cherries. The taste is very sweet upfront, and the grape taste is most prevalent. This is not a particularly complex beer, but it is very pleasant nonetheless, and would pair very well with cheese. The mouth feel is silky smooth. This beer is not something I could drink a lot of, nor drink too regularly, but it certainly has it’s place in my cellar!

It is a dark, sweet beer. Not something I might drink on a hot afternoon. However in the evening, this is my favorite beer. Heavy, filling, unique. I have never had a beer quite like this one. This beer is like "Port" is to Wine. It is a beer with a different, unique flavor, that is great to finish off an evening with. Belgium classic. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours very dark brown, with very little head that does not last. Aroma of caramel, dark fruits, plums, dark cherries. Taste very sweet, creamy and malty. Tastes of dark malt, raisin and caramel. a full body strong beer. Very enjoyable for a few sips, more sweet than needed for my taste. I enjoyed the glass!!

Pours brown, light beige head. Aroma is rich maltiness, light spiciness, lots of caramel and lots of alcohol. Flavour is moderate malt, few hops to be seen, high amount of alcohol. Finish is caramel and alcohol. Too much alcohol for me to rate it any higher than this. Maybe good while ice fishing in -20, but not regularly.
