COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A strong Belgian brown ale.
After extensive tasting, trying to fulfil increasingly strict requirements, the brewmaster obtains a creamy, dark Belgian brown ale: Kasteelbier. The quality of the past is still unmatched and the beloved taste is very much of the present. Kasteelbier is a dark, artisanal beer, soft and mild, full and creamy. It can age for many, many years, as indicated on the bottle. 11% abv, serve at 12°C (54°F) (Translation by Martinus)

Bottle. Poured a clear dark brown with a small light brown creamy head that disappeared very quickly and had fair lacing. The aroma was of nutty malts with notes of brown sugar, raisons, dried fruit and a horseblanket yeast scent. It tasted sweet, rich and malty at the start but matured into a nice sweet-sour yeasty flavor. Mouthfeel was medium in body and nice and creamy in texture. Overall a very interesting brew, one definitely worth trying again.

Very dark brown with a quickly diminishing top. Smells of dried fruits and leather. Taste is malty sweet but with lots of body. Apples, raisins. Long finish with remnants of calvados

33cl bottle from LCBO. Drinking at Pefferlaw, ON. 11% alc./vol. Pours a hazy ruby brown colour with a small mocha head which settles into a small ring shaped film around the side of glass. Nose is plums and dried fruits. Taste: Hoppy start, Dried plums, fig, caramel. Medium oily body with medium carbonation. Love this quad.

330ml bottle. Pours a clear dark ruby with a thin tan head. Aromas of dried dark fruits, dark bread crust, light earthy notes. Lighter bodied than I was expecting, and pretty darn sweet. More or less a showcase for the various sugars in the family of all things sweet. Alcohol, caramel, dark raisins, dates, dark maple syrup, and brown sugar that leads into light dark bread notes, very light metallic hops, and light cherry. VERY one sided.

75cl bottle into Kasteel chalice. Pours very dark, almost black, a fizzy beige head which quickly diminishes. Aromas of sweet sugar, caramel, dark malt, brown bread, vanilla, honey glaze. Taste- lots of sweetness, almost cloying, full mouthfeel, a bit oily, burnt treacle, candied fruits, sugar covered raisins, toffee, molasses, maltiness. Nice and intense, a little on the sweet side though.

330 mL bottle. Pours dark mahogany brown with a tight off white head. Rich butterscotch, ripe dark fruit, brown sugar, vanilla and baking spice. Sweet and malty, balanced by a good bit of booze. Smooth and creamy with moderate plus carbonation. Delicious.

330 ml bottle from LCBO, served cool in a tulip glass.

App.: Deep clear mahogany with a smallish tan head. Aroma: Quite sweet, malty, rich, fruity, lots of brown sugar, dark dried fruits, esters, light minty herbals, acetone/solvent and booze come through (yikes), a little melanoidin. Palate: Medium+ body, fine, full, smooth effervescence. Flav.: Much like the nose, a very sweet, rich and malty beer, a little less fruity, still has some alcohol heat and solvent/acetone; sweet with limited bitterness and a very boozy/solvent finish.

They cranked the abv up too high and got distortion. Tastes like a headache.

Very sweet beer, at first it was a wow factor taste. So delicious. But becomes a bit to much after a bit, good in small quantities. Good to enjoy one of these, but I wouldn’t be drinking it all night.

Hyvä ja makea. Tummaa omintakeista muttei liian makea. Voisi pari juoda iltaan. Päähän menee.
