A tripel, as solid as a castle. A full bodied beer, brewed with Belgian hops, to enjoy quietly, with a powerful, distinctive flavour: flowery, hop bitterness and soft alcohol.

Ingredients: water, barley malt, corn, sugar, hops, yeast, antioxidant (ascorbic acid).

Bottle from Charter Mall, Chongqing Lu, Changchun, China. Pours golden with minimal head. Typical Belgian tripel, bitter aftertaste. For 11% alcohol is not noticeable. Very nice.

Appearance- clear golden, plenty of carbonation, one finger pure white head. Aroma- spicy, yeast, sweet banana, fruits, malty undertones. Taste- full mouthfeel, big sweetness, sugary fruits, caramel, banana, a bit creamy and syrupy, malty finish, bread and yeast. Alcohol quite well hidden, although you get some at the end. Good, a bit on the sweet side.

Poured into a tulip from a 2 year old 330ml bottle. Aroma of a bit of fruit and spice as well as alcohol. Pours a darker golden with a nice thick head, not much lacing. Taste is fruit and a lot of alcohol. Aftertaste gives bitterness then sweetness. Good mouthfeel but a Tad too much alcohol for this beer in my opinion. Overall, decent beer but being that I?m not in a major city in America and it?s 4 dollars bottle, probably not a repeat for me.

Bottle. Classic of the style, all the way around. Fuzzy golden, pineapple color, with a firm and thick white foam head. The aroma is restrained, but true to style ... vague tropical fruit and yeast. This drinks with a superbly easy balance, with perhaps the only "fault" a bit of a tilt to an earthen bit of loam in the finish. But this remains IMHO a classic. (#5548, 6/11/2014)

330ml bottle, poured into La Chouffe tulip. A: Pale golden, clear, small head, faded fairly quickly, looked very lively, very bubbly throughout. S: Yeast, esters, apple, some booze. T: Yeasty, fruity esters, bittersweet, hint of apple, did a reasonable job of hiding the booze. M: Crisp, well carbonated, light body for the high abv. O: Thumbs up from me on this one, not bursting with diverse flavors but its what I’d like a tripel to be.

BB 04-2016 33cl bottle to Leffe abbey glass, pour is a transparent bright yellow with some floaties. Head is white but very weak and thin looking. Aroma carries lots of bread, wheat, citrus, slight coriander and white pepper, however it is not very strong. The alcohol is noticeable in the aroma. Taste is citrus fruity, sweet and bitter. It has a bit of a savory component that I don’t find terribly good with this style of beer. Alcohol comes through pretty strong too. Hops are great, lots of noble hop character. Palate...co2 high, body on the thin side, finshes fairly dry, alcohol is too much honestly but it doesn’t quite ruin it. Overall this is an interesting tripel as there are elements I love and hate about the style and they are very prominent...for instance the booze. Approaching too strong but odd how it never gets solventy which is a good thing and would explain the lower ester levels. Another thing is the sweetness...would be nice if that was toned down a touch. That said, this is a decent beer.
