TheJollyOne (203), Kofu, Japan Dec 18, 2008 Very dark brown body with tan head. Smell of very sweet malts, fermenting raisins and prunes. Taste is full of raisin, fig, and candied surgar, all a bit too sweet in my opinion. A hint of spices as well. Bubbly on the palate, medium fill. I could drink this again for sure, but it will never quite be a favorite. ratman197 (3135), Arvada, Colorado, USA Dec 16, 2008 750 ml corked and caged green bottle poured a clear golden yellow with a small lasting white head. Aromas of bread, yeast, pear, pineapple and light spice. Palate was light bodied and crisp. Flavors of straw, yeast, pear, pineapple and spice with a crisp lingering spicey sweet finish. bluevegie (2169), Perth, Australia Dec 12, 2008 Another tripel, four nights in a row now, drinks alright but a couple of the others I preferred more. Good colour in the body as well as a good head and lacing. Alcohol on the nose and the taste is a little too sugary for my liking. Boutip (2330), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Dec 9, 2008 Bottle: Poured a clear golden color ale with a big foamy head with good retention and good lacing. Aroma consists of alcohol ester with some slightly cloying sweet malt. Taste is also dominated by some sweet malt with some distinctive notes of alcohol. Full body with great carbonation but alcohol is too apparent. Definitely lacking subtleties that I would usually expect from a Tripel and too cloying to be a regular beer for me. LinusStick (1830), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 6, 2008 A delicious but typical tripel. Aroma was decent. Yeast, apricot and apple. Pour was a nice light gold with a 1 finger white head [small for a tripel] and tons of small rising bubbles. Taste was nice and deceptivlely drinkable. All light fruit- apple, apricot and peach with a hint of honey in the background and a yeasty bite that couples with the carbonation to dry the mouth. I would never have guessed this beer was 11%. Wet sweet aftertaste. EFC1878 (291), Manchester, Greater Manchester, England Dec 6, 2008 Bottle from Beermerchants.com. Cloudy gold with thin white head. Complex aroma features huge alcohol hit, yeast, apricot and a sour bubblegum element. Instant warming feeling on first sip, the taste is more apricot, honey, vanilla, yeast and so much more. Very dry, lingering finish. Light on the tongue despite the high ABV. Perfect end of day beer. daknole (2800), Plantation, Florida, USA Dec 1, 2008 bottle. Amber pour. light head. Aroma of yeast, booze, vanilla, and bread. flavor is pretty nice, bready, yesty, sweet, vanilla and caramel. Good beer. luttonm (274), Belgrade, Serbia Nov 29, 2008 Draft at Uber Seattle (listed as ’kasteelbeer de chateau’). Quite flat tripel. Very clean and clear amber with touch of a white head that went away quick. Bright flavor but flat on the tongue. Not terribly sweet with a slight stickiness, hides abv quite well.
