3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Copenhagen 27/5 2016. 75 cl bottle from Meny. Drawing of old buildings on the label. Looks more like a manison than a castle. Pours almost clear golden yellow with white head. Settles as solitary patches of foam floating around. Aroma of citric and sweet fruits, Black pepper, yeast and alcohol. Medium prickly carbonation and thick palate. Flavor has sugary sweetness followed by light bitterness. Yeast, Black pepper and a whiff of alcohol (it is hard to hide 11% completely). Semi dry finish. Very much on the sweet side - but a fine muscular Belgian.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Appearance: clear pale gold with one fat finger of fluffy white head, good retention and patchy lacing. (3/5) Aroma: apple and pear, stone fruit, candi sugar, boozy raisin, bready yeast. (7/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderate bitter, light tart. (7/10) Palate: medium-light body, lively to moderate carbonation, sweet boozy finish. (4/5)
Not bad at all. Definitely tending towards the sweet side of the tripel spectrum, but the integration of the very high ABV is quite good. As usual with these sweet tripels, I think I’d like it better if it were dryer, but it’s definitely not terrible as it stands. (14/20)

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sampled from a bottle,
this ale had a light to less than medium orange pour with some haze, and the pour a made about a one finger white cover that receded to a ring and large island of bubbles, it left sticky spots and small fingers of lacing on the glass,
the nose had aromas of peach, orange, faint pear and some other stone fruit, light malt, yeasty notes that had a touch of dusty webs?, unsweetened cake dough, some fermented fruit, a little bread, very faint flowers, candy sugar and honey sweetness,
the flavors were pear and banana like fruit, light malt, candy sugar sweetness, and a little citrus and spice,
the finish had a alcohol pepper spice and lemon citrus bite that gave some bitterness, pepper spice and light fruit trailed afterwards,
the mouth feel was medium to full and had a very faint to faint alcohol warmth on the mouth, it was creamy and had average to lively carbonation,
the nose had generous yeast like notes,
the aromas and flavors were muted for a big Belgian beer, I was surprised that the nose and flavor were not bigger / more pronounced,
the 11% alc. was hidden well,
this bottle was two and a half years old or more, and this may have been why the beer was not as good as I was expecting.
