A tripel, as solid as a castle. A full bodied beer, brewed with Belgian hops, to enjoy quietly, with a powerful, distinctive flavour: flowery, hop bitterness and soft alcohol.

Ingredients: water, barley malt, corn, sugar, hops, yeast, antioxidant (ascorbic acid).

UPDATED: FEB 26, 2011 Bottle dated May ’02, enjoyed 4/9/05. Light golden pour. Very fizzy, with a bit of a sweet honey smell. Taste is a sweet white wine, a touch of vanilla and a suggestion of oak. Just a little bitterness and then tartness with a sugary finish. I found this at Foremost Liquors, being closed out at $2.99. Why? They surely know Belgians stay pretty good as they age. Maybe because the labels were different from year to year.
Another 2002 bottle, enjoyed 5/31/07. Just as nice as before. Just noting a bit of cork in the initial swig. I’ve had a previous bottle that went way too tart, but this is still nicely sweet, with a contrasting dry finish. Crazy world, huh? This had a different label that I hoped meant it was the Donkel, but it still says "Golden" on it.

Slight/medium aroma of malts, Belgian yeast, flowers, sugar, corn and bread.

Clear/hazy golden/amber beer with a medium/large white/off-white head.

Starts heavy sweet with malts, Belgian yeast, flowers, sugar and corn; ends slightly dry with bread.

This beer is intense and...nothing else. Holy shit as if adding only Belgian yeast is not enough to make a beer sweet. Adding corn and sugar is simply not done in almost all beers, especially if it is already sweet with its ’necessary’ ingredients.

Bottle gently shared at Maakun’s. Clear golden with thin white head. Sweet malts, marzipan, banana candy, Sinterklaasschuimpjes, distant spicy. Big sweet, under medium bitter. Heavy body, alcoholic and sweet. Low carbonation. Sweet banana candy finish. Quite shallow in the aroma department and why so strong?

Bottle shared thanks to sjogro. Clear golden with nice white head. Lots of sweet malts, sugar, cardboard, nice spicy yeast, sweet banana candy, sweet cream and marzipan, strong alcohol. Very sweet with strong alcoholic bitterness. Full bodied with medium carbonation and thin alcoholic finish. It’s not that bad, but if it were more like 7% ABV it would be way better.

Really cannot justify the adjuncts in this one. The hazed blonde appearance and 1/2 inch head are nice as is the foamy, sticky lace and soft buttery aroma of biscuit and fruit. The palate is cool and very soft. It comes off as a mild beer.

Copenhagen 27/5 2016. 75 cl bottle from Meny. Drawing of old buildings on the label. Looks more like a manison than a castle. Pours almost clear golden yellow with white head. Settles as solitary patches of foam floating around. Aroma of citric and sweet fruits, Black pepper, yeast and alcohol. Medium prickly carbonation and thick palate. Flavor has sugary sweetness followed by light bitterness. Yeast, Black pepper and a whiff of alcohol (it is hard to hide 11% completely). Semi dry finish. Very much on the sweet side - but a fine muscular Belgian.

Zware volzoete tripel die warm aandoet. Afdronk is wat bitter en de smaak is tamelijk alcoholisch. Prima degustatiebiertje.
