A tripel, as solid as a castle. A full bodied beer, brewed with Belgian hops, to enjoy quietly, with a powerful, distinctive flavour: flowery, hop bitterness and soft alcohol.

Ingredients: water, barley malt, corn, sugar, hops, yeast, antioxidant (ascorbic acid).

UPDATED: FEB 26, 2011 Bottle dated May ’02, enjoyed 4/9/05. Light golden pour. Very fizzy, with a bit of a sweet honey smell. Taste is a sweet white wine, a touch of vanilla and a suggestion of oak. Just a little bitterness and then tartness with a sugary finish. I found this at Foremost Liquors, being closed out at $2.99. Why? They surely know Belgians stay pretty good as they age. Maybe because the labels were different from year to year.
Another 2002 bottle, enjoyed 5/31/07. Just as nice as before. Just noting a bit of cork in the initial swig. I’ve had a previous bottle that went way too tart, but this is still nicely sweet, with a contrasting dry finish. Crazy world, huh? This had a different label that I hoped meant it was the Donkel, but it still says "Golden" on it.

5.8.2014. Sweetish caramel aroma with Belgian aroma. Taste is sweetish, spicy, slight yeast. Hides 11 abv surprisingly well.

Orange color with white head. Booze. Very much booze. And carbonation. Not much more. Maybe a bit spicy. Meh.

Bottle (330 ml). Clear golden with a huge slowly diminishing white head that leaves some lacing. Aroma is quite sweet with light spiciness, lemony notes, alcohol and honey flowers. Taste is sweet (cloying) with spices, floral notes, alcohol and light bitterness. Medium body. Fizzy carbonation. Sticky alcohol and spices finish. No balance

Pours golden with a fizzy white head. Aromas of candied lemon peel, bread, sweet malt, floral, alcohol, and a bit of estery pome fruit (apple/pear). Taste is bread, yeast, light pome fruit esters, a bit floral, boozy, slight almond, citrus peel, and medium bitterness. Fizzy, medium body. Dry finish. Definitely not my favorite tripel, a bit too sweet and boozy and lacking in complexity.

Bulles agressives inutilement, gout alcoolisé fortement, peu de nuances, pas une réussite.
