Bottle @ weekly tasting shared with Dutchdrebus. Clear amber to red color, average sized off-white head that lasts for a decent while. Aroma is malts, slightly earthy. Taste malts, lightly sweet, a bit dusty. Soft mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Meh.

Bottle @ the last thursdayeveningtasting @ de dries. Dark amber colour with a small to medium sized off-white head. Smells malts, sweet, raisins, brown sugar. Tastes sweet, malts, raisins. Thin to medium body with nice carbo.

Bottle at SMÖF 2014. Malty smell with chocolate. Similar taste. Very smooth mouthfeel and easy to drink. Felt well made.

Bottle from Hopfen and Maltz. Thin brown with an off white head. Aroma is nutty malt. Flavour is watery malt, thin texture.

TAR (2518) - Lafayette, Colorado, USA - DEC 16, 2013
Tap at the brewery, Dec. 2013: Dark russet. Fine-bubbled dirty-white froth. Unclean aromas of diacetyl, prune juice, cola, rotting fruit, vinegar and yogurt. Soft prickles of carbonation. Flimsy body. Initial sip is dull, colalike, yogurty and butterscotch-laden. Limp and lifeless earthy malt looms faintly beneath the rampant "off" notes and peculiar prune juice fruitiness. Notes of cardboard abound. Buttery flavors film the palate with a tacky residue. Flaccid, prunelike finish reveals vague caramelized sugars, although butterscotch and yogurt predominate. Gee whiz, does the brewer have a yogurt and vinegar fetish or something? It’s truly puzzling how a beer in Franconia can be both served and happily lapped up by the patrons (one guy at our table remarked to us this is his favorite beer in the region!). Very unfortunate that this beer is so amiss, because I would very much love to have some serious quality time at the brewery since it’s tucked away in one of the coziest and most idyllic settings imaginable (perched atop a hill surrounded by hardwoods and farmland).

Draft at the brewpub in Heckenhof. Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly lasting. Body is medium to dark brown. Aroma is lightly malty (caramel, roasted grain, malt syrup), with a strong note of yogurt/sour cream. Flavor is lightly to moderately sweet, moderately acidic. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Such a shame that such an idyllic little country village/setting is home to such a terrible beer. It smells more like yogurt than anything else, and is equally sour. Pretty much impossible to enjoy.

Unfiltered dark brown.
Amazingly strong yogurt aroma.
Old yeast, like tenth generation stuff.
Gross, sour, sweet, thin, weak, ugh.
A dumper if there ever was one.

UPDATED: JAN 14, 2014 Vom Faß im Kathi-Bräu (28.9.2013). - Wurde deutlich zu kalt serviert. Daher anfangs nur leicht säuerlich-pikanter Antrunk, sonst wenig Geschmack. Brausig-dünn. Erst mit zunehmender Erwärmung kommen schöne nussig-röstmalzige Aromen zur Geltung. Im Nachtrunk kaum Hopfen, leicht säuerlich. - Kathi-Bräu mag unter Motorradfahrern Kultstatus genießen, aber dieses Bier ist bestenfalls durchschnittlich. Franken hat weit Besseres zu bieten.
