2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Decent beer. Interesting grassy nose gave me the impression that this beer would be lighter in the tongue than it was. Nice golden hue with good-lasting head. Taste is mellow if a bit syruped. After taste is sweet but still palatable. Good beer, just probably not repeated.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle, pours a golden body with a short lived white head. Fruity citrus and punch aromas. Light grain and sweet hop tones a bit sweet perfume with a hint of berries. A light body thin and soft. okay.

2.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
UPDATED: SEP 25, 2010 Bottle: Pours a clear gold color with a light white head and lacing. Nose of sweet toasty malts, honey and crispy noble hops. The flavor has a sweet impact and a bit too much green apple and lager notes in the flavor. The finish is brief and a little tainted by the taste. The nose is good though.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Wow. I was not too impressed with this brewery’s Hell, but this Heller Bock is tremendous. I love the style, but there are so many bad examples of it (usually American brews that come out too hot). This one is an archetype. It is not unlike Einbecker’s wonderful Maibock, but I think the latter might have some more complex malt. Nevertheless, this beer would be an absolutely perfect beer to pour for someone who wants to know what Heller Bock tastes like.

Bottle, pours a hazy, greenish-yellow body with white head. Musty aroma of bread, yeast with a light citrus and apricot. Flavor is similar with more maltiness and a little spice. Light to medium body and lightly carbonated. Finishes clean except for a slight lactose flavor in the aftertaste.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Clear golden topped by a pillowy white head. Now that was an original statement. Doughy aroma. Light sweetness. Fairly nice balance but not nearly goaty enough. Seriously, though. Kind of ho-hum middle of the road.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Poured a clear amber color with a small white head. Aroma almost identical to apple juice. Taste is creamy with some pale malts and not too much else. Slightly skunky flavor. Aftertaste is not too great, leaves a weird creamy taste behind.
