500ml bottle. It pours a dark brown and struggles to form a creamy off-white head. The smell is rich and malty with some caramel, nuttiness, and cocoa. The flavor is decent. It has light fruit, a light tartness, dark bread, caramel, and earthiness. Not really an outstanding beer, it could be old.

Brown with light-tan head, brilliant amber when held up to the light. Aroma is light caraml, parsley, and lager. hint of grain. Flavor is nutty grain, some caramel malt, balanced, light, and quenching, with just a minimal hop flavor, and actually a touch of nutty coffee, which was unexpected and nice.

Poured a slightly reddish brown color with a medium-sized off-white head. Spicy aroma with lots of dark fruit and raisins. Taste is very smooth with lots of malty flavors. More raisins and some brown sugar. Finish has a slight bit of alcohol with some caramel. Aftertaste is a little weird and sugary. Overall decent.

Pours dark red with a tan head. The aroma is bready with some potent molasses, and some raisin/plum. The flavor is rich and malty with pumpernickel bread, molasses, raisins and some dryness and hop presence in the finish. Some cocoa and yeastiness that adds complexity. Nice dark German beer!

Bottle. Pours clear amber/brown with a small, fizzy beige head, short retention with light lacing. Aroma and flavor are heavy malt (cookie, caramel, toffee, no hops, fruity esters, dates, and brown sugar. Medium body, warmth, and carbonation with a sweet finish.

500mL. Clear, deep bruin, deep reddish brown, tan bubbles, no real head formation. Aroma is heavy syrupy cherries, oatmeal malty, very Biere de Garde-ish. Taste is malty, syrupy, sweet, spicy, very sweet Biere de Garde cherry malty, oatmeal. Sweety, sort of artificial feeling mouthfeel- sugary, powdery. Malt insanity. Way too sweet for me.

A little bit off kilter. Caramel and fruity, with a good bit of dough and bread. Initial appearances are good, but the lingering notes are sour (I can see the comment someone made about plum) and not entirely in harmony. Soft carbonation effects. Interesting and drinkable, just not especially memorable. Bottle.

Pours a deep, dark brown with a nice off white head and some good lacing as it goes down. Smell is rich caramel and toffee along with hefty amounts of figs, dates, and other dark fruits. Slight hint of nuttiness as well. Taste really brings the dark fruits forward along with caramel and some candied brown sugar. Mouthfeel is fairly full and nicely warming without really being boozy. Very nice drinkability. Other than Andechser, probably the best Doppelbock that I’ve come across. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 10-01-2010

Clear dark reddish brown, very thin foamy head. Surprisingly sweet aroma - caramel and toast, maybe a whiff of bourbon or vanilla. Very heavy, almost distractingly so. Sweet and boozy at first, with a herbal finish.
