Commercial Description:
We are very excited to introduce KB Signature Series". Each edition is from a single, handcrafted batch with a limited release of 1,000 cases. This First Edition was developed in collaboration with the famous chocolatiers at Purdy's. We exclusively use Purdy's extra-dark premium choclate in the preperation of the recipe and again just before fermentation. Expect a deep chocolate colour, with a light bitter-sweetness and pure choclate aroma.

Pours a dark amber, nearly black. Small head, holds for a bit. Aroma quite burnt, with some sour cherry notes. Unmistakable chocolate flavour with excellent hopping. Slightly ferric, lingering sweet chocolate aftertaste - wonderful! Chocolate malts, crystal, a bit of coffee. Slightly watery, thin mouthfeel with decent carbonation. Leaves the mouth too quickly. Otherwise, a very balanced enjoyable ale. I’m not sure why it got such bad reviews - perhaps the bottling process was inconsistent? An formidable chocolate beer.

On tap at the Bulldawg at Silver Star Ski resort. Bartender said it was the Double Black stout from Whistler Brewing, but I couldn’t find this. Black with big, off-white head. Aroma of light roasted malt and chocolate. Taste is slightly bitter smooth chocolate. Very dry finish. Solid beer to enjoy in the sun after a day of skiing.

The packaging was truly amazing - box, gold foil lip, hanging paper tag etc.. However it lacked complexity that you’d expect from a double chocolate STOUT - then again it’s a double chocolate ALE so all is fogiven

Clear deep brown with a moderate cream coloured head. Chocolate is very apparent in the aroma, along with faint toast and caramel. Semi-sweet palate of mild chocolate and caramel malt, husky and grainy, light stemmy bitterness. Finish is surprisingly dry. Mouthfeel is on the thin side, but not so much as to detract from this beer’s overall appeal. I actually quite liked this, contrary to many raters who precede me.

the problem with rating this one is that it’s actually a decent beer - but for $8 I’ll never have another; thinner than Youngs’ Stout, and less chocolate than Phillips. If this beer was $4 it would probably receive decent reviews for being a nice, light chocolate bber with a mild finish
