Bottle from Bertís
Clear dark brown color with ruby highlights and a smallish off white head that dissipates quickly. Caramel malt with a hint of chocolate and crusty bread makes up the majority of the aroma. The flavor is what I expected from the aroma. Toasted bread and light caramel and chocolate. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a slick smooth mouthfeel. Decent beer but less chocolate creamy mouthfeel than I usually expect from the style.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz bottle. Dark mahogany color, clear, very bubbly, small head though, and no lacing. Pretty medium taste, tows the line with the style, a little nutty, and a bit toasty. I donít really taste the chocolate and just a little coffee. Nice aftertaste, not too strong. Palate is medium-light.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Dark brown with a beige head. Aroma is corn, malt, wet hay, toffee. Light bodied, fairly thin in the palate with a hint of sweet roast and a touch of light bitterness on the finish. Taste is toast, charred meat, toffee. Mildly interesting.

12oz bottle from Crossroads Spirits. Pours a clear brown/amber color with a large frothy off white head. Aroma of yeast, light roasted malt, a hint of chocolate and nuts. Taste of bad chocolate, light roasted and caramel malts, yeast, and a mild nuttiness.

While not a big fan of black lagers this one did seem to be better than most. Poured up a very clear light brown. Smells of caramel and chocolate. Taste is mild but goes from sweet, chocolate, toasted, to finish with slight coffee. Goes down easy so slamming these is no problem. Overall a decent brew but still not going to convert me to a black lager man.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz bottle pours with a clear amber body that supports a semi weak tan head of mostly medium size bubbles. The aroma offers up roasted malts and a light mix of toffee and nuttiness with thin ribbons of burnt malts around the edges. The taste has a nice dark roasted malt kick that includes dark roasted coffee and a mild burnt malt note. Beneath the moderate roastiness are sweet malts and a bit of sweet caramel and chocolate malts. Decent for the style.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Mild coffee roast aroma over swampy earth. Iced tea color, not black. Somewhat bitter, smokey and woody sweetness. Medium body, sort of syrupy. An expensive version of the Texas style dark lager, while some barrel dwelling ambitions.
