COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Big brother to our Mother’s Milk, Joe Mama’s starts with out Mother’s Milk recipe. We then add copious amounts of brown sugar to add body and increase the alcohol. After primary fermentation we then infuse a cold coffee extract from our friends down the street, Monkey Joe’s Roasting Company.

Appearance was clear black with tan creamy diminishing 1 finger head, spotty lacing. Aromas are coffee milkshake, caramel, toffee sugars, no alcohol present. Taste are balanced mix of brown sugar, sweet chocolate malts, coffee and toffee brew. Palate was soft creamy CO2 with meduim-full body, then lasting milky sweetness of malt ,sugars and coffee finish. A wonderful balanced smooth Imperial Stout...seek out.

Bottle from Matt McCue. Thanks, bro. Pours black with little head that fades minus a ring around the glass. Aroma is aldehydes, roasted coffee, sweet molasses. First sip is similar with big flavors of brown sugar and espresso. Finish is like the last sip of coffee with a bit of sugar. Nice beer.

Transfer from BA review on 4-27-12- Poured from bottle into pint glass Appearance – Poured a deep brown- nearly black color with a big billowy light brown head. The head at a moderate pace at first, but then left a persistent ½ finger head on the brew. This faded very slowly to give a good level of lacing. Smell – Sweet aroma of milk are quite heavy in this brew. There are some lighter aromas of roasted malt and some very light chocolate notes. Taste – A nice cocoa flavor greets the tongue and stays present throughout the taste. The initial taste has flavors of vanilla sweetness mixed within. Towards the middle the sweetness intensifies, but instead of vanilla in flavor, a milky sweetness of lactose comes to the tongue. Mixed with the cocoa it brings a milk chocolate flavor to the brew. At the very end the milk chocolate is meet with some light coffee and a moderate alcohol flavor which leave a very pleasant flavor in the mouth. Mouthfeel – Medium bodied with a lower level of carbonation. While a little bit more creaminess would have done the flavors more justice the mouthfeel is good none the less. Overall – A good drinking mild stout with some great flavors. One to sit back with on a nice cooler evening and sip on with pleasure.

Bottle. Pours like black coffee. Tastes and smells like it too. Reminds me of Surly Coffee Bender, but more roasty.

(Tasting session #2 with Frank)  355 ml.

4oz pour at Smoke and Barrel. Pours a watery, translucent black with some swirling tan head. Nose has watered down coffee, brown sugar, some toast, caramel, some malt. Flavor has more to it, malt, molasses, coffee beans, chocolate, toast, brown sugar. Thinner finish than I imagined. Nice.

This isn’t available in my area so I’ve only had two bottles to sample but both of them were from the same batch and WAY over carbonated. Gushed as soon as opened, and even a gentle pour gave 1" of beer and 4" of foam in a pint glass. About 10 minutes of swishing in the glass and it finally settled a bit but there’s no excuse for shipping it out like that. Brewery screwed up, plain and simple. Bad brewing and really bad quality control on this batch. I wanted to like it, but the whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth.

I have been saving this one for a special occasion - and my rating #10.000 qualifies ;) Thank you so much Coldbrewky for this rare treat from November 2009, bottle #221 of 250. The color is black with a red hue along the sides of the glass, and the head is light brown, huge, creamy and very lasting. The aroma has notes of coffee, roasted malt, dark fruits and chocolate. The flavor is sweet - not too sweet nor too little = just right! It has notes of coffee, roasted malt, chocolate, hints of licorice, dark fruits and the finish is slightly dry and milky chocolate-ly. The body isn’t overwhelmingly full nor fat and oily, but it is after all a milk stout on turbo, and it comes close enough. Well, I’m happy with my choice and hubby nods....

bottle from ed5388; thanks ED! not a fan of milk stouts in general, but this would have to be the best one I have tried - many things going on here and they all work. T - lactose, roast, and coffee. nice dark pour. med+ palate. taste was like aroma with lactose slight in beginning and coffee dominating on back end - very niice!
