Big brother to our Motherís Milk, Joe Mamaís starts with out Motherís Milk recipe. We then add copious amounts of brown sugar to add body and increase the alcohol. After primary fermentation we then infuse a cold coffee extract from our friends down the street, Monkey Joeís Roasting Company.

Tap at The Lark. As I approached the bar at The Lark last night, a friend welcomed me and suggested that I try something new on tap. The dark brown ale looked to be very dense and the slight aroma of roasted malts came forward. It was probably too cold at the time to illicit anything more than the malts for my nose to enjoy, but I went ahead with the first taste to see what it was like. I found the delicious milk stout to be similar to one of my favorites from Colorado and when it warmed up a little, the subtle chocolates and chalky cocoa elements surfaced. As the slight lacing descended in the glass, I knew my friendís suggestion had been perfect starter for my beer groupís meeting that evening and to share with other friends who would soon darken the door.

12 oz gift from Stacy - Nice two stroke color, cocoa lace, many layers on the palate. However, stout it is not.

Beautiful & delicious but imperial? Deep dark pour w/ a tan head & pretty ring of lading. The aroma is coffee w/ just a hint of sweetness. The flavor is roasted coffee but finishes a touch watery & slightly clean. Itís rather drinkable but doesnít have the chewy body that an imperial needs. Still tasty tho & overall quite good!

Bottle into glass, Mohonk tasting. Opaque black coffee color, cream head. Roasted coffee nose, a touch of caramel. Sweet in the mouth, dark roast. Prominent coffee finish, lingering with coffee bitterness. Excellent stout!

This was poured into a snifter. The appearance was a black color with a one finger white to off white foamy head that dissipated within less than thirty seconds. Light speckled to somewhat stringy lacing clung to the glass. The smell had a nice sweet to bitter blend of coffee to milk chocolate. Light amounts of dark chocolate with some roasty coffee beans round it out. The taste was a nice blend of chocolate to coffee, sweet, bitter and roasty. And then a semi-wet coffee aftertaste leads into a sticky sweet finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with an okay wet feel over my tongue. A little less body on my tongue. Overall, still a nice Imperial Stout that I would have again. Just a bit more sessionable than other Imperial Stouts.

Bottle. Pours a brownish-black color with a medium tan head that recedes to an outer ring. Aroma of roasted coffee and malt. Medium body with flavors of toasted malt, coffee and chocolate. The finish is semi-sweet chocolate with a mildly bitter coffee aftertaste. The alcohol is hidden well. I was thinking this was a sweet stout while drinking it.

Bottle. Pours a very dark brown with small beige head that lasts leaving sticky lacing. The aroma is strong roast and bready malt. Thin mouth, brown sugar, coffee bean, light bitterness, good.
