j12601 (1151), Poughkeepsie, New York, USA Jan 4, 2009 On tap at the brewery. Pours a dark black with a medium sized light tan head. Smokey toasted malt aromas with a hint of sweetness. Body is a little thin, bordering on medium, with even more roasted malt coming through. Finish again has nice roasted elements and a gentle bitterness to balance it all out. KnN (714), Greenbelt, Maryland, USA Dec 13, 2008 Pours a dark cola color with a bit of a tan head. Aroma is malt chocolate and bitter coffee. Flavor has some nice stout characteristics, but there iss a weird metallic aftertaste and the coffee bitterness clings to the inside of your mouth a bit unpleasantly. Not bad, but not great. GAManiac (1123), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Dec 11, 2008 Pours dark brown with a light cream head that last for a little while and leaves no lacing. The aroma is heavy on roasted malts, chocolate and coffee. The taste follows the aroma with a more bitter coffee flavor than the aroma. The mouthfeel is light and fairly thin with some carbonation. This is an average stout that is fairly basic overall. rds (224), USA Dec 9, 2008 Updated: Dec 20, 2008Ebony body with a mocha wig, this stout warns you with strong coffee and chocolate notes. A bit too much on the mocha side for me, but very smooth and relaxing. garthicus (1216), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Nov 30, 2008 Appearance: Deep black with a creamy pancake head. Aroma: Smoky, peat and malt, some coffee and chocolate there too. Flavour: Smoke, peat and malt. Nice and honest brew. JCastner (102), New York, USA Nov 29, 2008 Updated: May 28, 2009Pours black with a beige head. Aroma is of dust, some coffee and licorice. Roasted malt followed by some nice sweetness and a dry bitter finish. The body is a little too light – it lacks the silkiness I would expect from the oats and the sweetness from the lactose – both important ingredients in a milk stout. Perhaps they should add more. WeeHeavySD (2941), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Oct 31, 2008 12oz bonus from phhd. Pours black with a tan head. Nose is sweet and roasty. Taste is just eh, if you ask me. So this is decent but doesn’t do it for me. blipp (1631), Newark, New Jersey, USA Oct 26, 2008 Bottle. Pours deep brown with a tan head. Roasted aroma with coffee beans. The flavor is rather one dimensional with a light roasted presence and coffee grounds. Not bad.
