4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 sloth (2105) - Ceciltucky, Co., USA - MAR 22, 2008
Hand bottled on 12/06, 1 ltr swing top numbered 1fordy out of 2fiddy generously donated to the cause by my little newyawk buddy, coldbrewky. Thanks a bunch steve!! Poured a small tan head with good staying power and some thin stringy lace that hangs on till the end. Lightly hazy amber body with a red glow. Fruity, woody nose with light citrus, light earthiness and some honey suckley notes, an inviting arome for sure. Body is med/full coating on the palate but cleansing at the same time, wood effect? Clean oak flavors backed by a subdued hoppiness and some lightly sweet malts, caramel, light honey and vanilla notes, faint citrus and some cedary notes as well. Finish is mildly sweet, oaky and fruity. Alot going on here, very entertaining and well balanced to say the least, 12%?! A nice surprise from Keegan ales considering the quality of some of their other brews i,ve tried.Gawd i love me some oak aged brews! Sir, may i please have another?

S - I could really distinctly smell the honey. I can’t think of any beer in which it was quite so noticeable.
T - Again not only could I smell the honey, I could taste it. This beer was surprisingly smooth. Give the ABV I remember thinking that was a little bit frightening that something 12% could be so smooth.
A - The appearance was really intriguing. The color wasn’t quite what I had seen before
M -- Very good, smooth, tasted like honey but didn’t affect mouth feel
O - It was very good, I don’t know if I would want to drink this a lot. But it was good.

Bottle at the Funky 7, Brooklyn. Pours dark amber with a modest head. This is a big beer. Has an extremely sweet character, lots of caramel, bread, brown sugar, honey and toffee. Some hops in the backseat. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Sweet finish with mild warmth. Good stuff.
4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 cakanator (447) - South Hadley, Massachusetts, USA - JUL 9, 2011
Swing top fill. Pours a nice dark amber brown hue medium frothy head. Reading that this beer has 1000 pounds of local honey in it, I immediately caught a sweeter aroma, although I got more caramel on the nose and palate, my associate thought he could taste the honey more. One of the smoother 12 percenters i’ve had, very sweet across the palate, but not cloying or one dimensional. Tasty stuff, glad to have had a try!

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Thorpe429 (3823) - Alexandria, Virginia, USA - APR 24, 2011
Growler consumed at a recent DC area tasting. Served in a SAVOR snifter.
Pours an amber-brown color with some dark crimson highlights. There is a thin head, but it fades away quickly. The nose has a bit of caramel sweetness and molasses. Light hop character and maybe some honey. Really quite bland and boring. Nothing stands out and the notes that are there are just singular and don’t truly interact. The flavor is equally disappointing. There is malt sweetness and brown sugar plus some caramel and light earthy hops. Maybe a touch of citrus. Medium body with some booze. This was just an average beer, which was quite disappointing after I had sought this one out a few times.
Serving type: growler
