(Bue à la brasserie): Une concoction bien ficelée mais ennuyante. Céréales craquants, sucres timides mais adéquats, aromatique végétale balancée et buvabilité festive.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draught at the brewpub in Aug. 2014: Crystal-clear polished bronze. Creamy but fragmented eggshell head. Soft malty aromas of poundcake, pecan, Turkish apricot, toast, and breadcrust. Hint of fennel-like Spalt. Loose pinpricks of carbonation. Initially sappy with licorice-tinged hop oils and bracing minerals. Pronounced herbaceous hop sting yields to a forceful marmalade suppleness which adds generous weight to the otherwise lean body. Fresh hay looms amid a suggestive melanoidiny succulence. Malt-driven complexity continues to unravel as deep and refined toast exudes with ample lushness and zero edges. Finishes peppery with a nuanced tobacco leaf sharpness and sassy licorice notes which emerge alongside a grassy pils malt and bouncy pecan punctuation. Perhaps a tad tacky-sweet and a bit flimsy in the mouth, but the balance is appealing and the malt character multidimensional. And while it doesn’t exhibit that evocative Franconian rusticity, it’s still a very respectable lagerbier all the same.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draught at Bedford-Bamberg Beer Festival 2014. Clear reddish brown with relatively little carbonation and almost no head. Fruity sweet caramel scent isn’t particularly strong or complex but is pleasant. Taste starts out a bit jarring - quite sweet with sour and bitter edges before fading to a bitter/sour finish and sweetish almost saccharin aftertaste. Different, but it grows on you. And it doesn’t taste anywhere near 5%.
