Qualifier: I don't like IPAs. But it smells like a weed patch and tastes like poison ivy. Not good at all. Nice caramel color though...

Dig if you will a picture, myself at El Bait Shop this evening... curious about a new tap handle that doesn’t do much to stick out. I ask the bartender what "Keg Creek IPA" is... He tells me it’s a pretty great IPA from Glenwood Iowa. My eyebrow raises in general mistrust. Keg Creek? Iowa? Glenwood? "pretty good IPA"? Before I can debate the merits of this beer the bartender has a sample in front of me. He walks away... comes back... I order a pint. I imagine this similar scene has been played out a few times since this lovely beer went on tap at El Bait Shop.
The beer pours a reddish orange color with a tight medium white head and good lace.
The aroma is grapefruit and some onion, cat-box, lot’s of fresh hops, and a tad bit of peppery character was also fairly easily detected.
The flavor is bitter & has distinct Grape-Fruit flavor. The beer is basically dry but fruity enough with a tad touch of sweetness. There is a great expression of Simcoe hops all together.
When it comes to "red" IPAs and brash use of Simcoe hops my little IPA alarm starts sounding. Obviously Furious has shown us that tackling these two things can indeed make for a superb IPA... I reckon this brewery took a few cues from our Northern Neighbors.
