3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Rune (5025) - Tromsø, NORWAY - MAY 1, 2012
Half, cask ale hand pulled at Blackfriars. Almost jet black body, shiny surface. Smell of roasted dark malts added by a spicy touch. Dark malty taste as well as notes of liquorice. Roasted bitter ending. Feels rather thin in the mouth (Glasgow, 13.04.2012).
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 AshtonMcCobb (937) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - APR 21, 2012
Pours opaque black with a nice creamy head. The nose has intense chocolate and cream. The taste has chocolate but not as intense and there is a slightly dry astringent finish. The palate is medium to full bodied with a medium texture mouthfeel and a slightly drying but decent finish. Overall, a solid porter.

Cask by handpump at Last Post, part of the Battle of the Brewers competition between Ayr, Isle of Skye and Kelburn (25 Feb 12) - sort of liquorice aroma, black with a medium oatmeal head, coffee and chocolate flavour, prolonged bitter aftertaste, not really to my liking

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 tombyars (1102) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - FEB 3, 2012
Tasted this in the Saltcot, Saltcoats (JDW) in March 2011. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear black mahogany in colour with a thin creamy tan head. Slight sweet aroma of treacle fudge long in intensity. Thin but creamy mouthfeel and poor lacing. Dark complex malts give a rich moist loaf base with treacle fudge, bitter dark chocolate, burnt toast and milky coffee but no signs of any fruit flavours. Slight prickle of dusty hop resins in the short bitter aftertaste. Dark teacle toffee flavours in the rich malt return with a touch of liquorice. A fantastic porter and one of my favourites from the Kelburn portfolio, very popular in all the Scottish west coast JDW outlets.
