Aroma was malty as was the taste. cgarvieuk (2160), Edinburgh, Scotland Jun 20, 2007 Edinburgh Beer festival 07 ... Brown red ... smokey fruity malt ... watery malt fruit ... with little sharpness. thebeertourist (1696), Oslo, Norway Apr 11, 2007 Cask@Blackfriars, Glasgow. Orangey brown with a small head. Earthy citrus aroma. Likeable earth and chocolate flavours. Lightish body. MartinT (4241), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jan 10, 2007 Any first impressions?
-Creamy foam sits atop darkened copper.
-Expressive black grape fruitiness joins fascinating roastiness, and citrusy hoppiness for a enticing aroma.
-Caramel and toasty maltiness lack the fruitiness that made the aroma so wide.
-The round mouthfeel and low carbonation was expected, and delivered.
What if you dig deeper?
-Plums show up in the nose.
-Some tartness exists amongst the subtle grassy, leafy hop finish.
-A very decent old ale, but I’d had better a few days before, so it laid in the shadow somewhat.
On cask at Guildford Arms, Edinburgh. KnutAlbert (2133), Oslo, Norway Dec 5, 2006 Handpump, Market Porter.
Smoky aroma, tones of wood and a full malt flavour. Ashes in the aftertaste, the malt a bit too roasted, maybe? Quite OK.
