A beer derived from years of practice searching for the perfect pint, of course hoping secretly that you never actually find it! In other words, a pint suited to the taste- buds of our head brewer that can be savoured several times in one session without feeling like the bottom has fallen out of your world (or vice-versa!). Golden, hoppy, clean on the palate and leaving a long lingering after-taste that will haunt you until you quest for more.

On cask at the Standing Order. Appearance - golden with a proportionate head. Nose - soapy citrus. Some toffee. Taste - melded together citrus and toffee. Palate - light to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a dry finish. Overall - decent ale.

Draught. This is a decent golden ale with lots of character. I like the mouthfeel and the creaminess of it in particular.

On tap. Wasn’t too keen on this beer, could have been the tap but I didn’t feel it... was quite rough tasting and quite dry. More in the style of an English Ale as far as I could taste. Poured a pretty near clear gold like body with a thin head... overall an OK beer, not terrible but nothing to get excited about.

Cask at Kays Bar. Golden amber with a white head. Nice floral hop nose. Flavour has a light caramel backbone with plenty of grassy, floral hops at the front. Pretty good.

Cask (JDW, £1.95 pint)
Fruity to begin with, there are some light floral notes and some citrus fruits mixed with orange and possibly some peach. There is a mild bitterness at the end but overall it is light.
Golden orange colour with a pinky sized, creamy white head that managed to stay for a while and leave some light lacing on the sides of the glass.
Light with some mild summer fruit and berries to begin with along with some citrus and a touch of bitterness. There was a mild hop kick to the beer with some lemon and orange too.
Medium bodied and smooth with a bitter kick and a fruity flavour throughout. It was lively for a cask ale and not as flat as some of the previous ones I have tried.

A nice beer, particularly for a cask ale and not as flat as I had been expecting. There was a nice fruity blend and a good, wet feel to the beer. The only problem was that this didn’t seem to last right to the end of the beer but still a very good effort.

First tasted this in Coanes, Johnstone in August 2002. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear pale amber with a thick foam white head. Strong syrupy aroma of pineapple chunks and elderflower. Thin but refreshing clean mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malts give a strong fruity base with mango, lychees and pears to the mouthwatering fore. Strong hop presence with citric resins merging well with the malt to give a strong fruity punch to the aftertaste. Finish is quite dry with aromatic hop resins building over the pale malt in layers. Well crafted and an excellent session Golden Ale.
