Cask; Regular.
Named after a local blacksmiths, this beer is complex in character as is fitting for a championship winning ale. Red Smiddy is a smooth, dry ale with a unique spicy aroma and flavour. Its reddish hue, warm glow and tight head gives it a presence that makes it stand out against its competitors

Cask at the standing order. Pours clear amber, thin white head. Aromas at malt, light citrus. Taste is caramel, more light citrus. Biscuit on the finish. Pretty standard stuff.

Cask pint in Cafe Royal, Edinburgh on 25th Oct 2014. Ruby hue to the reddy/brown body, on top a full off-white blanket of bubbles. The nose had a semi-sweet fruitiness with a Rye like dryness in the taste. Add some mild spice and subtle nuttiness to the flavours and you are getting there in the taste. Ends with a very dry and bitter finish. A tidy and different brew.

A kind of ’red bitter’ or ’Scottish red’ if you will, caramel malty beer with smoky and toasty flavours, honeyish, buttermilk (diacetyl) and long bitter finish with both hop bitterness and roasted bitterness. Interesting.

(draught) pours a slightly hazy deep amber colour with a frothy off-white head. aroma of dark fruit, kiwi and herbal hops, with a hint of banana, earth, yeast and butter. flavour is quite grainy, with more dark fruit, some yeast, cardboard and grass. light-bodied with soft carbonation.

cask at filmhouse of all places. reasonably well kept translucent ruby beer. slightly creamy. sweet fruits, light spice, gentle nuttiness overwhelmed by a bitter finish. a bit thin. not the worst kelburn ale but I'm still not a huge fan and this isn't doing much to change my mind.

Ruby red colour, with a white-off white head. Aroma was rich in malt, biscuit, caramel, a hint of coffeee, with a faint hint of hops. Taste was very well balanced, very drinkable. The texture was oily, could have been a bit more on the palate- it felt a little thin. Overall a tasty beer, would buy another.

Aroma: Weak aroma of red fruit and lightly roasted malt.

Appearance: Hazy rose body with a thin off-white head. No visible carbonation. Great lacing.

Taste: Malty with juicy strawberry and plum hints. Light, soft flavours.

Palate: Thin to medium body with an oily texture. Flat carbonation.

Overall: A fruity, moreish Bitter. Easy drinking without having a great deal of flavour.
